My advice is to look at the pictures first. Take time to explore them yourself eg see what you notice, where does it go, what does it overlap etc? Only then go to the text and learn names, innervation and so on.
Also check out to see if your books have questions in the back: these are a useful way of structuring your approach and whetting your appetite.
