Conscious comprehension builds with questions. You do see the words sometimes that might mean you turn back a page because you were zipping over it whilst superreading. I understand your concerns with conscious comprehension. It's what you need to know right now that you want to consciously comprehend as soon as possible considering the other stuff is what you might need later well your mind did read it, just not consciously.
Use the words you hear as cues, for dipping and furthering your questions. Know that you don't have to hear the words to comprehend it. Build this skill over time. Give yourself some leeway and allow lapses. When they occur and you notice just return yourself to your intention.
