Hi,

I have been using photoreading for several weeks. I keep going even I fear during activation and here are my experiences.

First of all, I would like to tell my steps so as to make sure that I do the steps correctly.

During superreading, I expand my peripheral vision so that I can notice the whole 'row' of the sentence and I use a finger pointing at the center of the page and scrolling down the page. Then my eye follow the finger's motion and 'scan' row by row down the page.
Are my steps correct?

Then here are the problems that I face. I can't read any word but just noticing the existence of words if I use peripheral vision to read the row. I know this is normal but I can't read the key words as well so how can I know where to dip?

On the other hand, if I narrow my vision say reading 5 words as a group and still following the guide of my finger, then I can read these words clearly but the pt is what about if the key words are on the left hand side or right hand side of the row? Then I miss it again.

The last problem is a psychological problem is I always worry missing sth and if I find my vision does not expand enough to read a row, I would go back and to start superreading again. It makes me feel bad so that I would rather just regular read. But what's the pt of regular read? I spend so much money on the book, self study course and seminar just want to MASTER the skills and be able to achieve the level of comprehension that I need at least 3 times faster.

Dear experts, pls give me some advice.

Try skittering rather than superreading and dipping. That way you may narrow your field of vision.

During superreading you are reading without subvocalisation and not necessarily comprehending much of it because you are looking for specific answers to your mind probing questions.

The thing is you're not trying to comprehend everything in the book in one activation pass of say 3 hours. You do multiple passes (this means that you can happen to see some pages 2,3, 4, 6, or 8 times during activation. You're not wasting time looking at redundant information that you already know you're looking for what you need to know to comprehend the message that the author is conveying in the time you have available to the level of comprehension that is right for you.

Again, I suggest you try skittering rather than superreading and dipping. Do multiple passes you are exposed to the text more than once when doing it in multiple passes so how can you really miss anything that way?

To get over the hang up of fearing you missed something do the 5 day test on a book and follow it up with a rapid read. Do this for 3 to 5 books or as many as you want. You will quickly discover that the time you spend looking for that last 20% of the information is redundant. You will have already gained the 80% (or more) that you really need to know in about 1/3 the time.

Thanks Alex. I tried skittering but it seems that it's much slower than superread and dip.

Besides, I skitter with zigzag path or just random orbit but I find it quite difficult to comprehend the paragraph with individual key words or I don't even know if they are key words. What should I do in this situation and shall I move on and keep skittering that paragraph until i get it gel?

Page 61 to 67 of the photoreading book is worth another look for you.

I suggest in particular you 'activate' the following passages.

Page 61 The paragraph next to the Einstein with the lightbulb. through to page 62.

On page 62... Search for train of thought... Einstein jogging through to page 63 Einstein jogging.

Page 64 skittering 65... Einstein with light globe right through to the subhead create a mind map.

NB mind mapping is a useful tool to help with the activation and see how you're going.

My post would have been too long winded if I tried to rewrite all that information.

If any of that doesn't make sense (the parts I suggested you really read) then lets talk about it

Alex

Remember, Michael S

You are not alone when overcoming obstacles. I am perhaps no expert at using the system, but I just do it.

Your bodily movements will help adapt to the mechanics when practice is done more and more. As you do use them, expect little, so fear is no longer needed. Just tackling the activation step, regardless of success, is an accomplishment in itself.

Michael S, sorry from coming by so late.

Regarding your fear and backing up when you superread. Fear is a nasty thing. If you don't have an easy method to reduce or elliminate it consider looking into it. They are not necessary for PR to work, but a good general tools/skills to have. I'll share some ideas about PR that may help you.

I superread just like you, but without the finger. I don't even try to consciously read. I'll notice words and thoughts, however my main objective is to see everyword and notice queues for dipping. When I dip I push my reading speed to minimize subvocalization. I'm dipping for information not the ability to quote.

As for noticing that you field of awareness sometimes narrows, I would interpret any such behaviour on my part as internal guidance. Afterall, I've already read the book and something like your narrowing vision is a way for my other than conscious mind to direct my efforts towards my goal. It would say to me, that there is nothing here I need to notice. Therefore I would definitely not contradict my inner mind and repeat the material.

As for the process of noticing that you field of awareness has narrowed, I would take that as a message that you should widen it and get because something relevant to your purpose is coming along.

I'll recommend try trusting your inner minds guidance, and making your conscious mind more of an observer. Never second guess anything you are doing. Never doubt that you are receiving exactly the guidance that you need right this instantance. Be quiet and notice and you will be lead correctly. Don't argue with your guide.

You are perfection.
