Impulses from the coclea go through the spiral ganglion, to the cochlear nuclei of the medulla. Impulses are sent to the superior olivary nucleus and via the lateral lemiscal tract to the inferior colliculus. The auditory cortex in the tmporal love via relays in the medial geniculate body of the thalamus. The inferior colliculus also sends input to the superior colliculus of the midbrain. The colliculi act together to initiate auditory reflexes to sound. The auditory pathway is unusual because not all of the fibers from each ear decussate, therefore eachauditory cortex receives impulses from both ears.
