Hi,

I have what I assume to be the 1st edition of the PhotoReading home study course (Comes with the book, "Learning to learn" by Trinidad Hunt). Can anyone tell me about some of the newer developments in Photoreading? I am going through the course again after 7 years and I am wondering if I am missing out on any new "stuff".

In case you're wondering why I am going through it again after so long: The first time I got only half way through and then stopped. I felt that I had gained enough and that the Photoreading step was just BS anyway so I didnt need it - or that it needed so much work that it wasnt worth the effort. After moving house I found the box, and now I am curious again - which is a good thing because over the years I have reverted back to some bad habits, although many of the PR techniques are 2nd nature by now.

TIA
Mando.

I don't have a copy of the first edition but can tell you the basics is still the same, the first edition was 1993, 3rd editon 1999. Go through the course at least once doing the 'assignments' as you listen. Then check the forum for tips and suggestions.

The course now comes with Natural Brilliance book by Paul Scheele. This is a handy sort of book that covers Direct Learning with a script. Where as Direct Learning is just discussed along with a basic 'how to' in the Photoreading book.

The only thing you're really missing out on is doing Photoreading. Since many can learn from the book a lone and you have a home study course, I suggest you work your way through it and come to the forum for that extra advise.

Ok looking at the table of contents on Amazon I see that the table of contents is the same except for chapter - 13 "Discover your genius potential with direct learning" - Can anyone here give me a summary of what this is please?

Alex, I started ealier this week and I have just finished tape 6 - so far so good, I am making good progress - Somewhere along the line I lost the Paraliminal tape(s) that were included which is a pity Although I still have the "Smoke-Free" paraliminal which didnt work anyway - (thats probably why I didnt finish the course first time - I stopped recently with 'The Easyway' to stop smoking book - which rekindled my interest in this course in a roundabout way.)

Direct Learning is a method of non conscious learning. You photoread 5 or more books covering the skill you wish to develop without activating those books. Then you wait and see what happens.

So far people have used it to improve their golf, chess, backgammon, tennis skill, management skills, communication skills etc.

There is actually more covered in discussion on the forum. Do a search on Direct Learning on the photoreading forum and the Genius Code forum since the Genius Code had the actual process as part of the course.

Also the Natural Brilliance book by Paul Scheele covers Direct Learning in a lot more detail than the photoreading book and even provides a script for integration of the skills.

The photoreading step was just BS Let me explain something to you without the photoreading step it would not be photoreading and you would be losing a tremendous advantage.

When you photoread (the step you consider bs)you are exposing the book to the other than conscious mind the part of the brain that has no problems doing 20,000 different things at the same time. Now you have the book operating on 2 levels the conscious level when you do the activation for the book and the other than conscious level.

This is what enable photoreaders to accelerated the learning process because your other than conscious mind is much more powerful and learning becomes easier.

If you just want to do conventional reading without photoreading that's fine that's your choice but you definitely would be losing a tremendous advantage.

Thanks for the info on Direct learning, I will be giving it a try once I have finished the tapes. One question though, why not activate? Surely if you activate you get more advantages since the info is available at 2 levels of mind. Anyway, I will give it a try and see what happens... it sounds like an excellent way to satisfy my curiousity about the photoreading step...

You don't activate because you let the non conscious mind select the path rather than consciously 'trying' to do it. You just let go and notice the subtle changes in your performance. Like learning to ride a bike... if we did it "by the book" most of us would never dare climb on an exercise bike because we still haven't learnt it.

By photoreading 5 or more books you get the information from different angles and the mind puts it together better without the "nay saying" conscious mind. Of course if you get the intuition that one of the books has some information in it that you need to know consciously then you can activate that book.

Does direct learning always work? I don't know but looking at how successful schools are at teaching 'reading skills' and the number of kids getting through the systeme that are illiterate. The amount of effort against reward in direct learning is quite substantial when it works. I see it working best if you have to 1, use the skill on a regular basis and 2 have some level of the skill in the first place. So I don't see it working for learning a new language overnight. I do see it as integrating and furthering the skills of a language when the intention is there.
