Hi everyone,
I am confronted with a problem on activation.I photoread a chemistry textbook (12th grade) after previewing for about 8 mins and noticing the main keywordsfrom the Table of contents(I didn't wrote it down , any probs? )After PRing it straight and upside down from backwards,I glanced through the TOC once agin to help in further assimailation. Then I went on to sleep and reviewed the PRWMS book about activation next morning and went on to activate it as per the instructions in book.
Firstly I read the Summary of each chapter & then the questions given on exercises but no feeling whatsoever came to my mind
and I was completely desp & disappointed.
Please help me guys since my board exams are starting from Mar 1 onwards & have five subjects(Eng,Math,Physics,Chem,Comp.science(mainly C++).Any suggestions on it are very welcomed.Including effective study strategies.

Also I want to confirm that my Photofocus is correct. When I keep the book at right angles to my eyes I can see a narrow rounded page in the cntre, but in any other angle i fail to get it consistently. So I just notice the four edges and the other surrouding me like tables, paper weights..
Just getting softgaze with blurred text and complete view of the two pages is necessary for correct photofocus ? or effective PRing ?
Also I am not sure on how to use that affirmations ,purpose statements etc in the examination point of view and the general.
(Please include some examples also)

Please help me (I am in dire necessity)

Bevinj; here are the reasons why i think you are having problems. You said nothing in your post about what your purpose was for the chemistry book. Your post also says nothing about formulating questions for trigger words and finally your post says nothing about superreading & dipping looking for the answers to the questions you formulated from the trigger words.

You are not feeling anything because you have not told your conscious mind what to look for because you have told your conscious mind what questions you want answered.

So the solution to your problem is

1. Establish your purpose for the chemistry textbook.

2.Write down trigger words and questions for those trigger words and find the answers to the questions by superreading & dipping.

3. Do a mindmap of the chemistry textbook.

Incidentally a textbook is going to take longer to activate than a regular book.If it normally would take you 60 hours to go thru a textbook with photoreading it will take about 20 hours. Then don't forget you are going to have to work on problems and formulas which will take more time.

In regards to photofocus look at the four corners of the book the text should be a blur and for affirmations As i photoread my concentration is absolute i am curious as to how many ways my mind can demonstrate to me that the information from this book (say the title of the chemistry book) is available to me.

Yes there is a problem, by not writing down your 20 to 25 trigger words you moved yourself into being a passive reader. This is particularly important if you seriously want to activate your book.

About 7 minutes on a postview glancing through the book not just the TOC would have been beneficial here. Any questions you already had you would hva written them down. Merely glancing at the TOC again indicates you were taking passive approach.

Like in the five day test?

What happened to the mind map from your activation and why do I get the impression you only looked at the summaries before looking at the questions? Why didn't you take the questions and do further activation with them check out in the text where the answers lie and create a mind map.

When activation seems to fail it usually means you're cutting yourself short and need another activation pass or two.

Photoread all your textbooks, you may photoread them more than once in fact since you're still getting acquainted with photoreading photoread your textbooks daily for a couple of weeks.

Remember that class discussion can help to activate the text. You need to get curious and active in the process meaning you need to mind map.

Treat each chapter in a textbook as if it was a book in itself.

Review your mind maps daily for the first week after creating them then once a week. If you notice and decline in memory you can quickly review those pages of the book.

Books with questions provide a moderate amount of insight as to what you need to know for a general understanding of a chapter us that only as a guide to your general knowledge. Remember your purpose for studying and look at your trigger words for activation as well

The first activation pass should be of the whole textbook from cover to cover. Give that process 30 minutes, some things you will recognise other stuff will be new. On most textbooks this is only enough time to get an insight as to what the book is about.

There after remember to treat each chapter as a book and activate in 20 to 30 minute cycles until it gels.

All that seems to be fine. Your problem areas don't seem to be photofocus.

The affirmations are explained in the book if in doubt use those before and after photoreading.

"Purpose Statement"... your purpose, why are you reading the book or better yet why are you studying? What are you going to do with the information you obtain from the book? That becomes your statement or intention of purpose.

"etc in the examination point of view and the general."

You mean to pass an exam? Why do you want to pass the exam? What are you going to do with the information you learn, in your life? That's your purpose. One suggestion is 'so that I obtain my best possible passing grade so that I can...' you fill in the blank so that you can [whatever your purpose is].

Also consider learning to photoread with a couple of books that are not study related but of personal interest first.

Do the 5 day test on them and get to know what activation is like for you. If you have difficulty with the photoreading process it's going to interfer with your learning process. If you have difficulty understanding your subject you're going to have difficulty learning photoreading on that suject. Once you know how the process of photoreading works for you you can apply it to studying confidently. Right now how do you tell if it's really photoreading that you have trouble with or just plain difficulty with the subject you're trying to cover?

Thankx Alex, and other gurus of PRing
You guys are really helpful.
I need little more of your advice regarding:
a)form qns using trigger words
b)how to get triggerwords(are they the main headings ar rather should I write down the table of contents iteslf if they are so.On the contrary if they are n't what U call triggerwords, then how to find them.
c)mindmapping laws and mindmapping highly technical(incl.formulae ,abstract definitions etc.)

Why did the author use that word? How does it relate to the subject? What did the author mean by that? Starting questions and then there is the TOC your curiosity is also sparked by your postview so you might be turning chapter headings and subheadings into questions after postviewing.

Trigger words are any words in the book that catch your attention and can be anywhere on the page. Words that your eyes fall on or you notice a few times are usually good trigger words.

Need a question here... to try and say something would be rambling without knowing exactly what you know of mind mapping and what you really want to know.

I suggest using a flow chart type of mind map.

Also if you can get the book Memory Booster by Robert Finkel. He provides an illustrated outline how to memorise chemical - amino acids and the method carries across to other chemical structures.
