Hi,

I have just been playing around with skittering but when I skitter I feel like I am gaining almost no conscious memory of the text I skitter. Is this the same as with super-reading and dipping in that the text comes to memory with more passes?

phobos; skittering & superreading & dipping are 2 activation processes. So when you are skittering you are using a activation technique. Some questions for you. Before you attempted to activate the book skittering did you establish your purpose in the prepare process? Did you pick out your trigger words in the preview process?

Did you formulate questions from the trigger words during the preview process?

Did you photoread the book?

Let me correct myself. Mind probing questions should be formulated during the activation process not the preview process.

If you follow the book as to the skittering instructions. You're reading the first sentence and skittering over the words in the paragraph and then last sentence of each paragraph if you didn't understand or get what the paragraph is about.

Since you must get the first sentence and read the last sentence, how can you not be getting anything from skittering?

What is your skittering technique? Perhaps we can make suggestion for something different you could try.

Most people try superreading first since it's faster than skittering.

I feel like I am gaining almost no conscious memory of the text

Mind map! Just reading and expecting to remember is the passive reading trap that people use to forget what they read.

I think I have done everything that the book tells to. I have set my purpose, I have (of course) photoread the book and collected trigger words.

As to my skittering technique, I go around the words in a circular motion. It seems that I can't seem to grasp anything from these words. I've also tried other movement-patterns that the photoreading book mentions.

Perhaps I should rephrase my question. Is it ok to not gain comprehension of the words you skitter over?

If you're not gaining comprehension I suggest you use the skittering technique as instructed in the book.

What's the point of activating if you're not gaining comprehension?

The whole thing comes together when you read the short phrases, sentence or paragraph that answers your mind probing questions. The information that you haven't directly read will also come to your comprehension awareness when you have dipped (read the sentence, phrase etc) according to your inner promptings.

If you're not getting anything from your skittering technique. Modify it so that you can.
