So I was thinking about the ideal state of mind and relaxed state of alertness and the difference between the two when I remembered the tangerine technique and the "3,2,1 RELAX" statements and was wondering where they fit into the equation. Could you please tell me when each technique is supposed to be use in the Photoreading process and if they can also be used interchanibly? Many thanks.

Tangerine technique used whenever you need focused concentration especially for reading and at any stage of the reading process. Regular reading, PhotoReading, speed reading, reading your emails, reading articles etc.

3,2,1 Is entering the Accelerated Learning State, used in particular for the PhotoReading step (along with the tangerine technique prior to opening the eyes). Can be used anytime you need to be alert especially in learning situations. Yes can be used at the start of a lecture or subject as well.

Experiement and see where you can use these technique and how they work for you.

I just want to share this. When I started learning photoreading in aug 2001, I misheard/misunderstood "tangerine" for "tamberine". It wasn't until I started listening to The Genius Code last Nov. that I understood it to be a piece of fruit and not the musical instrument. It seemed to be easier to visualize the orangelike fruit than the tamberine I had been visualizing for 2+ years.
I found this humorous.

I am wondering if this would work. For people who have trouble visualizing the tangerine can they put a light object on the crown of the head. I have tried putting a small box on my head and it feels more real than having an imaginary tangerine.

Try a beanie with an oversized pom pom or even just a hat (tangerine aka as thinking cap).

A touch to the back of the head is fairly discrete and it saves pulling a hat on to read
