I have just completed the PR course and need some help in studying for and taking a computer certification test.
The test, answers, correct answers, explanations as to the answers are correct and why the wrongs are wrong are in an Adobe PDF document.
The actual test is on a computer. You take it by picking the answers (multiple choice). If unsure you can mark the question and come back to it later.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to the best way to study the questions and take the test? Should I print out the 385 pages of the pdf file and flip the pages or view the file and questions by rapidly hitting the pagdown or pageup keys on my computer?

Thanks

Photoread on the computer it's easier (page up page down) Know your weak areas so you can jump to them for faster learning. Give the test a run through as part of the activation process (from the PDF if at all possible). This helps you to discover your weak areas.

Since you can mark any questions that you want to come back to later, you can use the method of responding to test posted by Dana http://www.learningstrategies.com/forum/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000707.html

Thanks. I forgot to say that the PDF file has about 330 questions from which 60 are randomly chosen for the test.

Hi

I have also taken about 16 IT Test (MCP,MCSA,MCSE,CCNA,Network+,i-net+) It took me about 2 years of constant learning. At the time I did the thest I can`t photoread. I even didn`t know that such a Technik exists.
Anyway. I just read the books, every week about 800 - 1200 Pages of Material. After a half year I realized that I can just go through the books without worry if I have may missed an important thing. The key of passing IT - Exams isn`t actually the reading of the book about, it is the prepare part for the exam. "Skills beeing measured". Everybody knows what is measured by the exam. So after the first time reading the book do it a secound one, but only with the topics wich are relevant for the test.

One of the biggest problems are these Question Catalogs. First they are illigal, secound the often WRONG !!! And third they pervent you from logical thinking. The exams arent hard, they just need a lot of theoretical and practical skills.

Anyway it`s your choice how to pass an exam. If you won`t have the skills you won`t get a job or whatever.... even if you archieved your titel you want.

I just want to tell you a little story I had.
It was one day befor my exam. I know I had only one week to learn and this was too less, so the night before the actual exam I learned. Just reading and reading my own written points form the staff. I just got this 300 Pages through I think about 5 times. I have drunk 6 cans of beer and eat everthing wich was fat. Ham, bacon, and so on. I was tired so I also drunk about 10 cups of coffee. Anyway everytime I got through the 300 Pages I thought "What tha hell have I read before ?" and so on after the 5 th time it was 8AM in the morning. Ohhh my god I thought. I`m drunk, I`m tired because I was awake for 30 hours and I have to pass an exam in 2 hours form now an. But I just go for it. I even realized that I wasn`t able to go a stright line. And may you know the feeling the world is happen arreound you and you relize everthing, you get mad. But I went to the testing center. There I checked in and they said to me that the test is english. Wahhhh englisch my main language is german and I working with german operating os and read german books about it. I was completely wirred. But I said to myself no Problem you will do that old boy it`s your 6th exam nothing can go wrong. So I sat infront of the screen and I don`t know why but every answer was right in my head. It was amazing. I switchted through the exam in 15 Minutes and have a score from 98 Percent.

Since this Moment I realized one Thing. I don`t have to worry if I don`t realize the sense of Material at the first time. If the body is in the situation and it`s an important one he will throw out all the data you have gave to him.

I Think I have done something like photoreading and didn`t knew it.

May this helps you
Sorry for the mistakes....

Psydonym, that was an excellent post.
It's commendable that you can pass these difficult exams that are written in English, which isn't your first language.
I'm English, but I find these exams diffcult, I don't think I'd have a chance if they were in German.
I think it's wrong that you have to take these exams in English, and not your native language, but unfortunately I don't make the rules at present.

I was going to make a point about terrypirate's post, as it seems that he is describing what is known in Computer Certification as a 'Braindump.'

These are basically the answers to IT certification tests, which have been illegally made available to the public by people who have illegally obtained the test questions, or who have memorised them in the test centres.

While some people think this practice is fair game, this is compeltely ILLEGAL, therefore I should point that out to LSC, as I think they deserve to be told before giving somebody advise unwittingly on how to use these illegal papers.

Sorry that I didn't say something before, but I couldn't quite beliee what I was reading, when reading terrypirate's post.
Psydonym has clearly worked out that terrypirate is talking about Braindumps, therefore I am adding my weight to this.

I've worked dam hard, and as Psydonym says, so has he/she to study this complicated and ever changing subject, without resorting to cheat sheets. It's people who use these Braindumps who devalue my, Psydonym and others hard work.

For those who aren't aware of IT ceritifcations and Braindumps, think of it this way.
Imagine you are taking your high school exams which depend on your future, and others are openly cheating. Not very nice, so you can understand why it makes Psydonym and I so vocal about it on this board.

Thanks!

Don`t get upset because of some people using Braindumps. Just think about following.

They pass the test with braindump knowledge, archiev a titel in order of some exams. Lets take for instance the MCSE Titel from Microsoft

You need 7 Exams. Each of them costs about 200$ so 200*7 is 1400$ just the examcosts than he will spend some on books if he do it will be on at least 2000$ and then he will spend lots of money for actual updated braindumps so he is at least on 2500$ and than he want`s to work in a company they sai ohh wow an MCSE (in presen`t they won`t do this because there are a lot of them because of braindumpers anyway) and will give him a good payed job. After 1 Month they will fire him because he isn`t able to fullfit the requirements.
Hehehe and what is end. He spend over 2000$ for nothing. Just to make companys much more richer than they are before and have nothing from it.
So why get anoyed of this people they are just poor and you should think I`m the next one who will get his well payed job but I will stay there because I fullfit the requirement

So take it easy.

By the way to all Braindumpers. I archived my CCNA and working through CCNP. I have a laboratory with 4*2500er, 1*Cat 5000, 1*Cat 2950 and tons of cables and so on. Everybody how knows this cert track knows that this equipment isn`t cheap but it is necercarry to learn and understand processes.

The point is I`m a 20 year old boy. Don`t have a job, visit my school and go working nearly every weeks 10 hours for low money to earn some money. It took me over 2 Years to have my cisco Lab. Here an old version from my laboratory http://members.aon.at/magor/makeluv/sperklab.gif

This is Cisco Lab is a synonym for everthing you are learning on !!! Don`t save money for you eductation. You wan`t to archiev a goal, pay the price for it (Money, time, and so on). The best is rarly enough for it !!! It`s your life so investing in it is ok. And if something don`t work, you have invested in it`s ok too, because you are now much more richer than before, you know this kind of work isn`t for me.... emagine you find that out after 2 years in a job, and you aren`t able to get a new one!!!!

Thanks for your concern, but I have already taken 18 months of training. This does not guarantee passing the tests as many can atest to.

Anyway how I said, it`s everybodys own choice.

But in Memorizing huge amounts of datas let your brain control the readin. You will see the brain has an rytmen and even if you don`t really realize what you are reading, your mind does :-)

So the miracle I have told before is solved.

Wahtched on weekend a photoreading seminar, and there they show exactly the methode I does, before my test. It`s calles skittering combined with rytmic reading.

Extrem fast !!! Try it.

If you combine following. Photoreading, than rytmic reading and skittering. The book or text will actually take you the half time than before, if you are a beginner like me in photoreading, but 10 hours befor 5 hours now thats great !!!

I'll jump into the fray here... I'm not going to list my certs because I have too many. You can go to my website to see the list

As someone who has worked in the IT industry and now I help in hiring people too (interviewing and such), if I even suspect you of using braindumps to get certifications - you are personna non grata. I will not hire you... In fact, I put your resume in a special folder, just in case your name comes up again.

I passed all my tests with experience and pure studying (with a home lab, and work stuff). I used photoreading for almost all of the tests.
