The whole program is good. Without the photoreading step, you would still learn at a faster rate, though not as fast as if you had the PR step.
One of the most important concepts in the program for me was that learning happens in layers. Not trying to force everything in with immediate recall the first time through has helped tremdously. If you approached learning in a "layering" method, you would learn much faster.
