Unfortunate for you AlexK and several others are at the retreat this week.

What are you doing?
What are you getting? What is your experience?
Are you never dipping?

Try and give more details. I'm sure you'll get more help that way.

I have to caveat this by saying you are putting too much pressure on your self trying to learn PR in such a limited time and for such a high pressure reason. PR is not a magic pill. It could help you do learn your course material in a week. However, many people take a lot longer before they are relaxed enough and have enough confidence in the system and themselves to get real results with the PRWMS.

I would suggest that you suppliment your regular studying with some PR. Counting on your regular studying for now, and noticing any benefit from the PR sessions.

You are perfection.

Brp; you are getting nothing because you probably did not establish your purpose and probably did not write down your trigger words and questions for those trigger words.Am i accurate here please let know if i am or not. When people are not getting nothing from their superreading it is usually because they have no purpose established and did not write down trigger words and questions for the trigger words.Let us know if you did establish your purpose and wrote your trigger words and questions.

brp,

It's fine that it feels like you're reading it.

Make sure you're, pulling out trigger words, mind mapping and formulating questions that relate to your purpose. If you're not doing those things then you're being a passive reader, not active. If you want the information from a book fast you need to become active.

Set a specific time frame for your activation (30 minute blocks are good). Take regular breaks so that it integrates.

If you haven't learnt photoreading yet, use regular reading to activate the books (photoread them if you can do this). Now is not the time to start learning a new learning skill. Banking on learning a new skill with only one week for a major exam is asking for trouble. Your post shows your desperation and this isn't going to help in developing the photoreading skills. Focus instead on your purpose of the exam.

thank you all for you advice. i am pulling out trigger words and creating questions easily 20 to 50 questions per chapther. I feel like when i photoread i'm getting some kind of effect, however once i supperread i find myself regressing back to old reading habits. And yes i do put a lot of pressure on my self being at a non-gratifying job coming up to 20 years in june and wanting to do something smart and that would make and impact(programming, software dev) fauilure is not an option that's why i believe in this system based on the feeling i get after photo reading, but when it comes to activation i feel like i'm looking through thick lens and i can't see the anwser to my q. I have at least 5 600 page books and a software to prepare for the MCP Certification and i have committed my weekend to this endevor. However the weekday are a challenges because once the kids are in bed and I 'm ready to study my energy is depleted. How much can I get out of this system if I committ the entire weekend. I seems my major problem along with what you guys suggest as well as the above is ACTIVATION PLEASE HELP. thanks brian

brp, photoread4me and AlexK have mentioned your purpose. It should be a strong and inspiring one. You can search the forum for lots of thread on purpose.

As to having 20 to 50 questions per chapter. I would suggest that you pick only 3 questions per activation pass. Then use the system and see what happens. NOPS it. If you try and force an answer you will not get it. You have to be relaxed and open to the experience. Don't go into it with expectations of how it is going to work.

Expectations of How things will happen is not the mindset of the beginner. Just because your used to How things happen using your old system don't expect it to happen the same way with this system.

That's why the time limit is tough. It has a need to learn x amount per hour. Anything less will result in anxiety.

AlexK would also say something like, "Don't try and learn two things at the same time. You don't know if you aren't learning the PRWMS or not learning the material your using system on."

I'll end by suggesting you try with a good strong purpose and only a few questions. The forum has several good threads on creating good purposes and questions.

I wish you the best of luck.

You are perfection.

Become more systematic in your activation approach. State a question or 2 then dive in with superreading and dipping - answer the questions - mind map when you find the answers or "part there of" - once you start mind mapping more information often comes along. Cycle with more questions. Do this in 15 to 30 minute blocks, take regular breaks to allow the mind to integrate the information. Focus on the questions that will be asked in the test. Work a chapter at a time until it gels. 20 to 50 trigger words seems to indicate that you are spending too much time in the preview.

If you're not mind mapping and not asking questions you're not being active with the text therefore you are being a passive reader, not active, and activation will take longer.

Also quit looking for a certain feeling and go with what is you're placing blocks into the process by saying how you think it should feel and not going with what is. PhotoReading isn't going to magically do it, you do and it isn't a system of rules how it's supposed to feel. That is different for everyone. Go with the flow and just answer two to three questions at a time, mind map and notice what your experience is not what you 'think' it should be.

Almost going off topic here, but still:
Besides PR as a great technique for reading those daim Microsoft books you might wanna search fro cram sessions an transcenders on your MCP topic. They will prepare you more then anything else...if you have your basics covered that is.

Everyone on this forum always seems to add 'and be sure to Mind Map' as an afternote to students' posts While I now LOVE MindMapping and find it to be a most valuable and effective skill, it is not something that would have helped me at first. It has taken me a few months to really begin to learn/get into the habit of using the technique well enough that the process is automatic and doesen't create extra anxiety or break the flow of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Mind Mapping is a skill like any other, and therefore it may come very quickly for you, or it may require some persistence and lots of practice until you get to a point where it's a helpful study/learning tool. The PhotoReading book does not cover the technique in anywhere near enough detail for my tastes, nor do the combination of websites I've seen; Tony Buzan's The Mind Map Book has been the resource from which I've been able to learn it.

Mind Mapping is great, but just like PhotoReading, only some people are ready/able to learn it over a single weekend! I certainly wasn't even though I have always been motivated, open, (but obviously not open enough!) and persistent.

Good luck to you, brp, but be careful. It is a fine line indeed between using a powerful new skill and trying to use a skill that you haven't fully learned yet. PhotoReading's steps are simple -- so are Mind Mapping's, but it requires a whole paradigm shift that may not happen overnight. To change your whole way of reading and thinking from passive to active is a big change! Go easy on yourself.

In hindsight, if I were you, I would PhotoRead the books and then study the old way, but select carefully which are the most important passages first. In that way you can use the PhotoReading philosophy of layering. But if you're one of those people who has been able to Superread and Dip effectively from the very beginning, the more power to you :-)

That just wouldn't have worked for me at the beginning!

Brian; some questions for you. How long does it normally take to prepare for MCP certification? Is it a year? Is it 2 years? Is it 5 years to prepare for MCP certification?

Are you taking the classes at a college?

Can the certification be postphoned and done at a later date?

What would happen if changed the date for the certification to another time in the future?

Reading your post you appear to be stressed out big time and desparate. This is exactly what you DON'T want and hinders learning.

Remember how Paul Scheele talks about being the accelerated learning state relaxed but alert.

Let me share something with you. Let's just say we have a person who is in poor physical condition hasn't exercised in years eats a lot of unhealthy foods loaded with fat that are bad for one's health.

Then this person decides they are going to do something positive for themselves start exercising eating good nutrious foods.

But this person overdoes it this person tries to do too much too soon. What this person should do is do this gradually. For the first month forget about running. Walk just walk perhaps ride a bicyle. In time by adding a little more each day (you notice i said little)this person gradually increases their level of conditioning.

It took years for this person to get out of shape they are not going to get in shape in an hour or a week.If they insist on doing too much too soon the body rebells and breaks down(an example would be an injury).

You could say the same thing about the brain. If you try to force it and overwhelm it the brain shuts down. Remember our conscious mind can only attend to 6 to 8 bits of information at a time.

Now it NOT the time for you to learning Photoreading with a major exam on hand.Study and prepare for your exam and learn Photoreading at a future date without putting yourself in a pressure filled stressful situation where you put way too much pressure on yourself and feel that you have to learn Photoreading and if you don't learn Photoreading the consequences will be a castrophe.
