One of the simplest ways to experience the negative space concepts is to grab a simple drawing like a cartoon turn it upside down and copy that. A subtle mind shift takes place and you start drawing by noticing shapes not the lables we give parts of the illustration.
When done you'll be surprised at the accuracy of your drawing.
In a way that's what we do with photoreading. Stop the mind applying the labels and getting it to notice what is and then look at the finished picture when done.
In the optical illusions it demonstates the minds attempt to complete the picture from the imformation picked up by the eyes.
