Emotions. The experience of learning to read and going to school was quite traumatic for me and to save my butt I had to remember. Tried hoodwinking the teachers by memorising the books after the first read. Only by the third grade reader did they realise that I couldn't recognise words so they put me back to where I started. To learn to read what I had already memorised. (At 7 this experience was the foundation of my reasoning that both teachers and penguins were brilliantly stupid).
It would probably bug you even more if you knew that I remember all my teachers names since I started school.
