Hi Alex,

I am a newbie in PR. I have been doing the complete PR process during some days. I think I am doing something wrong, because once I finish the 5th step with some book I can't remember anything but just the things I mind mapped and some other isolated information read during step 5.

Am I doing something wrong or is it natural in the beginning?

Thanks!

Paco

Paco,

If you remember the things that you mind mapped and other information from the book... What more is there to remember?

When you read a book you will always read according to your purpose and what you want to know. Whether you consciously acknowledge it or not. Half the time we don't realise that our unconscious purpose is not powerful enough or actuate enough for our real need.

The question is how much more do you need to know?

If you're looking for 100% comprehension from a book consider this;

Is it useful? The Author of a book is a human being, has given you some information. Some of it will be useful in your life the rest redundant.

Now consider a chat with a stranger in the street, s/he tells you of their life, the story is interesting and some of it is useful to your life and learning the rest is redundant, do you really want your mind to hold consciously every encounter, every pieces of learning and every piece of information you come across in your days?

Isn't it much more useful that the mind makes the information applicable to you and your life in a way that you can act on it?

So when you ask what can you remember consider the fact that the mind wants to know how it is applicable... of what use is it to know?

Since you mind mapped the information that you considered important to your purpose... What more is there to know? If you're missing information that is important because you didn't mind map it. Check your mind probling questions, are you only asking What? and forgetting Who, Why, When, Where, How when you do your superreading and dipping?

Also if you spent enough time superreading and dipping then the rapid read stage often becomes redundant. Its only if you sense you want to know something more but are not sure what or wanted to find if you missed something.

If you find that after rapid reading you didn't really pick up any more useful information it means you can save yourself a lot of time and skip the Rapid Read. You already got everything you need from the book.

Alex
