Cluster. Eg furniture, car and aspects of cars, in the garden, in the kitchen etc for brances.
Draw images and duel images... the image of what it is... and the images of what it sounds like... taking time to draw the English sounds like helps to bring the word back into memory.
Eg Tia - a tear drop, for Aunt.
By all means play with it.. the time taken to draw something... 90 seconds to learn a word sticks with you, just because it took you that long to draw it.
Consider mind mapping in a straight line for a sentence... draw link images to phrases etc.
Remember a map is a guide to were you want to get they don't have to start from the center. Like treasure maps..
