If you create a 1 hour tape and play it back 10 times adding the hour and a bit it takes to make it you spend about 12 hours listening to the tape. Beauty is you can listen to it in the background. If you listen to the Memory Optimizer course you have a life long benefit, however, once through is about 10 hours, applying what you learn about 5 hours (till you own it) Then you need to apply it to the Vocabulary list. You may be using a different technique however anything worth remembering takes practice bringing to the conscious mind is going to take a few hours. You learn to do it in what is called Piggy Bank time. Which is similar to listening to the vocabulary list whilst showering, exercising.

Having prepared a tape and started learning your list early you have the advantage of being able to play it again prior to the exam whilst reading the list. Whether you think about it or not by creating a tape you are bringing more of your whole mind into the remembering process. The hand work in making a tape brings in the tactile memory. The recording brings in the auditory memory and the reading brings in the visual. You have at least 3 triggers for recall.

If you wanted you could create a second tape with just the words and challenge yourself to write the definition. That play reinforces all three senses again.

Initially it may be a bit more work than just reading the list and as you know just reading doesn't really guarantee that you will remember it when it counts. Reading the list out loud already makes a difference to remembering by recording it you don't have to read it out loud each time.
