I photoread technical info all the time and it does help to have a clear purpose, i.e. a problem (or should I say challenge) to solve.
If your intention is to pass an exam then PR previous exam papers first then photo read the book(s) with the intention of finding the answers to the questions.
If you can't get a hold of previous exam papers then pretend that you want to set an exam paper yourself (a really difficult one). PR the book(s) then set about constructing your own exam paper. You'll learn a lot that way.
