I don't know what the deal is... I can't seem to come up with a correct purpose.. I look at the purposes in the book and the example purposes from the last time we spoke it and just didnt seem right. When i mentioned a purpose awhile ago you guys said it was wrong.

Please, I have 7 Books that I really want to use with photoreading but im not to clear on the purpose thing. I read the photoreading book "Step Sections(Part2)" Several times. Im not clear on how this purpose thing works.. i know its supposed to help me or whatever but I really can't think of a purpose that will work. Please allow me to work with you in establishing a purpose correct for my needs.

Now I know you said it would be a good idea for non-technical books but im really not in the posistion to allow anything else at the moment for this is what I need work at this time. (Although i did goto the library and aquired some books on music since i couldnt really find anything that interested me and in a way these books seem technical in nature as well so maybe we should forget i mentioned that)

Like I said I have 7 books; all of them are technical Computer related books. 6 of them deal with the Windows 2000 Operating system and the 7th is a networking book. Please Ask me questions about my purpose and I will try and give one.. Try to steer me in the right direction for establishing a purpose.

The reason why I have these books is so that i can learn the job specific skills related with the product windows 2000 and preform administrative tasks... I am hoping to become a microsoft certified systems engineer. I like computers and have some years of experience but I would like to learn all about the skills that are presented in these books and aquire them as my own.

Now if you need book titles, pages or whatever information.. maybe even book content screen shots or images let me know; even though i dont think its necessary but i do what you to be familar enough so that we can come to a adiquate purpose together to get me going.

Please ask me whatever you need to help us establish a purpose for me. Thank you very much for your efforts.

It seems to me that a really good purpose for you would be "my purpose is to learn & acquire and apply the skills demonstrated in this book to start my career in this field"

What are the skills demonstrated in these books? Establish what skills are taught in these books and use those skills for your purpose.

haha thats basicly what i want to say, or how i feel but dont really sum it up in such words. Possibly insted of stating can i just feel my purpose?? feeling would be eaier than words in this case. And about the purpose i dont really see how this is going to help when activating like when im going through the book superreading or whatever and noticing things.. for i see the things i have to notice or will notice will be linked or should be linked with my purpose.. even though they do seem to be linked; i dont see how im supposed to assimilate a majority of the book with that puprose alone, so i need more purpose but to how that evolves seems far off. Thank you for the purpose I suppose I iwll use that for now. Hopefully somthing will work.. The strain of reading huge books (1700pg technical manual is a book im looking at currently)is too much and i am hoping this photoreading will help me get through it easier.

The problem with feeling your purpose is that it is too vague and not clear enough. The mind is a goal seeking device and you have to know what you want from the book before activating the book. You need to know what questions you want answered before you can start answering questions. This is why the trigger words are important as well they help you get the most important information you need from the book.

Well; it is 1122pm where i am at and i have to get up at 500am. Good luck on that, try that and refer back to this forum. I am sure there are a lot of Photoreaders out there with great advice. Take care.

The problem with just feeling the purpose is that it is passive and will lead to passive reading. Therefore activation will take longer or it will take longer for the book to gel.

==================================
On Purpose....

If you don't know where you are going how will you know when you get there?

The the point of a purpose is to identify what you want from the book so that you know when you're done.

You can look at a purpose as a subgoal path towards a major goal.

You have in fact stated your purpose..

quote:
The reason why I have these books is so that i can learn the job specific skills related with the product windows 2000

The major goal is "Become a Certified Microsoft Systems Engineer."

The subgoal or path that will get you there is the purpose of learn specific skills.

Stated as a purpose for reading...
I am PhotoReading/activating this book, [name of book] by [name of author] so that I can learn the [Name the specific skill you expect to learn on this activation pass] necessary to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer

Activate asking mind probing questions with your purpose in mind. After the activation pass check your purpose have you reached this subgoal towards your major goal or (in the words of Donkey - Shrek 2) Are we there yet? Have I taken this path to the end? Have I met my purpose of learning/understanding or knowing this particular skill.

If so next skill next purpose, same book or another book?

Yes, You can have more than one purpose for a book and it can evolve as you activate the book and see more hints what the book has to offer.

Whether we realise it or not we often pick up and preview a book before buying it with the purpose of finding out if it's someone we want to know more of or if this book will add to my interest so that I can improve a skill in a certain area.

If you want to know where your going and if you have a purpose think of the words

... so that I can ...

Then you'll have it that's why your doing it.

It doesn't mean that the purpose will be the best motivational purpose. One that I consider unmotivating is ... so that I can pass the test. My response is so what? So what if you pass the test or not? What's the point?

Since you're telling me you "...so that I can become a MCSE" I can go yeah I can see a point in doing that it's leads to a career and income and social status. That I see as a motivating purpose.

So if the purpose doesn't motivate you ask yourself what's the point? If you can't find one make one. Look beyond the final exam.

Alex
