While Alex is the one with experience and I agree that parallel vision is the "right" one for PR, I disagree that it's "not using your peripheral vision."

By definition anything that's not in your foveal vision is in your peripheral vision. If you're converging your eyes on a point close to you *and* become aware of the page beyond that, that page is in your peripheral vision. You will get the cutout effect on 3-D pictures that Alex describes above.

Semi-related comment

There may be other uses for the convergent (crosseyed) method if only to distinguish it from the "right" way to photoread.

One reason may be as an eye exercise, alternating between convergent and divergent on a MagicEye (3-D) picture to strengthen the eye muscles. Another reason may be re-learning how to relax them (as some of us--like me--forgot how to do). I played with this alternation and just viewing MagicEye pictures for awhile last weekend and was able (once again) to read an acadmic journal without glasses.

Afterwards, I've had a much easier time this past week maintaining the right photofocus.
