I've been looking over this subject and I personally tried to search for proof. I could find none. There is no proof that the theories behind this are sound or that this even works. I'm interested, but I cannot find proof and my better judgement tells me that if there's no proof it's fake. The only citation of proof that I saw was that someone supposedly photoread U.S patents and had a comprehension rate of 75%. However, nobody provided evidence that the event actually occured. Putting the fact that 75% happens to be the cutoff comprehension level on tests aside there is also the fact that another citation of this proof claimed over 90% comprehension.

Anyways, the whole point of this thread is to ask for proof. Not personal testimonies though, this could all be an elaborate psychological effect that deceives people into thinking they actually comprehend. I am asking for solid proof. Perhaps an actual tape of someone performing this feat. Links to independent sources validating this. Maybe photoreaders participating in official competitions?
