I am starting this new post in hopes of clarifying conceptions of interpeting text, to share methods of reading and to help disseminate new methods if reading to others.

I was brought up in the understanding that you are to read from left to right, from beginning to end and parse the entire text in this way. But from the introduction of concepts in the photoreading book on ways to read text ive come to the realization that possibly there are different ways to interpet text.

One on of my questions is, am I able to focus on one entire paragraph and understand its meaning, because if I can focus on words and understand theyre meaning then it should be possible to do this with multiple groups of words, sentences and paragraphs.

I am looking how one would be able to understand meaning from a paragraph by just focusing on it and if anyone does this already.

I understand that everyone has different ways of interpeting text and if we could share methods on what people do when reading then we can consider changing our ways.

Input on this would be greatly appreciated.

That's what superreading and dipping is about. The inner mind understands the wholde paragraph but the conscious mind with it limit of 7 plus or minus 2 bits of information a second cannot. So the inner mind draws the conscious mind to dip the 7 -/+2 bits of information that that will build conscious understanding in the shortest time.

Exactly!
As I went throught the course the other day for a refresher on PR, that realization hit me.It was like my mind was shouting at me:

"FLEX22, I THINK YOU NEED REMINDING THAT THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.SO THERE.OK!
THANKYOU!" your mind

I've been photoreading and activating for a good long while now.I'm learning new things about myself and building connections to the words through feelings more than anything.

The last few days I have been working a lot on the super reading and dipping, always striving for more efficiency whilst still getting the understanding and comprehension I need.

You know this sound really corny but doing this is REALLY FUN!

I get so much pleasure from discovering how my brain works, pushing myself. The feelings of excitement as I make progress are awesome!!!

Yes tektonik, you can get to a point where you just browse over the pages (superreading) and you get a very good *gist* of what it's about.I say "get to a point" because it may take you little time to get to this point, or it may take some practice.

Know this though, you cannot do it wrong! for you are perfect! always remember that.

Every time you do this, you get better at it.Keep at it and reap the rewards.
You reap what you sow my fellow photoreaders.

It's amazing how quickly you can get through books using these methods.
Yes I am talking about technical books as well as any other type of book.

It's already within us, we're just tickling our senses, tickle tickle tickle.

How much of a tickle do you need to make you laugh.Think of that area that really makes you laugh when tickled.

It's the same with what we're doing here with PR, people.Tickle your senses.

It only takes a small tickle to cause a big laugh, you just have to know where to tickle

Good luck tektonick, and everyone else.

I love watching all of your progress, it truly inspires me to do better for myself.

Cheers and good luck!

I don't know if this is very relevant, but I'll post it anyways.

Here's one way that might help you read and comprehend a block of words faster. In nearly all writings, they have a title for each chapter. Each chapter is divided into small sections, with a title that goes with those sections.

The PR course has instructed that we preview these chapter title, section titles, and even go as far as reading the first and last sentence of each paragraph.

I would do the above and go one step further. After having read those titles of chapters, titles of each sections on the chapter as well as a couple of randomly selected sentences from each paragraph, I would try to guess and hypothesize what specifically this piece of writing is about.

If I am reading an article about the disappearing chemical industry in the U.S, I would preview, and then take an educated guess based on what I have preview regarding the main idea of the entire article. For example, I might guess that the article is saying that U.S chemical industry is shrinking because the market opportunities in this country for chem industry is disppearing.

Then you read each paragraph in block and keep in mind the hypothesis you have made. You'll be essentailly looking for a yes or no answer (yes that my hypothesis is correct, or no my hypothsis is wrong).

And you do that with dip reading like Alex had recommended.

I tried that and the most interesting effect had happened to me. As I dip read, it seems like each block of words I was reading became more "shiny". Its as if there are light bulb behind those word blocks that I was reading.

Upon realizing that this effect was happening, I imagined those block of words being downloaded into my brain like a computer being downloaded with a new program.

Try that. I think you'll find reading block of words suddenly more easy to understand.

Why is it that when I look over a paragraph and know every word but there is little understanding? What actually makes understanding or comprehension?

I have the PR, Memory Optimizer course and the Genius Code course, and they help to understand this more.

Mini-Rant start:
It's a shame that there isn't a bundled GC, MO, PR forum where people who have done all these courses can discuss them in a single forum, as we would all have the similar memory threads from studying these courses.A lot could be achieved with this format. It's a shame and a missed opportunity End of Mini-Rant.

Ok, back to what I was saying. We all have threads within our mind, our unique memory webs.
We have a link in our minds between "door" and "open."
Almost everybody has that common link, because a common action upon a door would be to open it.
If we were to read "open the door" or "the door was opened" that link is immediate. It doesn't take a lot of thought to understand what's being said.In fact the comprehension is almost immediate.
As it says in the MO (Memory optimizer) course, "when you already have threads in your memory web for something, you have immediate recognition of it"

The fact is though, your memory web and the author's of a book are unlikely to be the same.Sometimes they are similar (which is why you may like some authors over others, as I do with my technical books).
The PR book talks about "the train of thought" which is basically the gold dust.
If you can get onto the train of thought, somehow develop the technique for doing this, you can read and understand a lot.

The MO course teaches us that we should lay our own tracks, but to also push ourselves and try to follow the authors tracks.

It's a balancing act.

I can feel your frustration and curiosity coming through in this thread, and I feel the same way.Personally I would have liked LSC to have gone into "what exactly is comprehension" more in the PR course, but alas.

I have been using the Genius Code techniques to find answers to my questions relating to this subejct we are discussing here.
Believe me I am spending real time on this and am certain I will come up with some new technique or strategy, or whatever, but there'll be something.

The strategies in the PR course are good and I love the course and what it can do for people.

However (and I know that LSC would totally agree, as they've said it themselves in the GC course) we can come up with new techniques to constantly better ourselves and to share that with others.

So come on, keep the thoughts in this thread going. We're definitely going to make progress here, I can feel it!

Thank you for the information flex.

I still would like to know why I would have to read from left to right to create understanding. I can look through many paragraphs and see everything that is in there and know what all the words are, but if there were some way to just look at it and comprehend what it says I would be very happy.

Simple answer is, you don't!
quote:

You already do and you already did, even before you saw it.

Everything we can be, we already are, and already were. It's all within you.
Nothing was ever inplanted into you to make you understand the world or the words, everything, all meaning, came from within you!

This may sound like I'm going off track, but I'm not, this is all totally relevant.

You were born with everything you need, nothing more, nothing less.

Know with absolute!!! assurance that you already know everything.Cultivate that attitude, have that attitude, have that confidence, and it will serve you immensely.

The conscious mind is seriously, seriously slow in comparison to the subconscious, this we know.

PR'ing accelerates this 'knowing' by planting the 'ordered' information into your subconsicous. It doesn't put the sublime spiritual infinite intelligence and all knowing in there, because it was already there, just like everything else is already there, right now!

So now you have the Photoread 'ordered' material, your subconsicous has fully udnerstood the entire book.

Aha, but that's your subconscious right, and we want it in consciousness.

This is what it's all about, drawing it out.

You don't need to know the biological makeup of a flower to see it's beauty.

The same is with reading and with comprehension.

quote:
"Everyone wants to understand art. Why don't people try to understand the song of a bird? Why do people love the night, the flowers and everything around us without insisting on understanding them? But when it comes to a picture, people think they must "understand" it. If only they would realise that an artist creates because he must create, that he himself is only an insignificant fragment of the world and that no more attention should be paid to him than to many other things in the world which delight us although we cannot explain them.

Picasso.
Art does not have to be 'understood' to be appreciated and to be meaningful and useful in our lives.

Take what Picasso said and relate it with what da Vinci said:

quote:
Study the art of science
...

and you get a big insight.

It's the same with reading.Think about it, ponder it.

Draw it out, go with your feelings, see where it takes you.

Create!
