The main method I am employing is use of Chessbase 8 to play games at a fast rate.
This is already employed by some chess players. It resembles photoreading. Obviously you can vary the speed.

Photoreading books - yet it is difficult to visualise notation.

Solving puzzles and but photreading them first

For activation playing and solving puzzles.

Emphasis on the fundamentals such as Endgame manuals and basic strategy. Using computer databases always seems faster.
