That sounds like the blip page you have there. As they "merge", they become one page. Yes, you can still make out words on blip pages, especially if the text in the book is close to the centre-fold. That's nothing to worry about.
Not everyone gets floating words. They sometimes appear, but don't bother about hunting for them. The key is to maintain a relaxed, soft gaze. If you are seeing what you are describing without crossing your eyes, then you've got it.
