The idea of the imaginary X-Technique is that you "see both" pages at the same time and if you were to take a ruler and draw an X from the top left page to the lower right page and top right page to the lower left page.
Where the X crosses is where you look. If you look "though" the book at that point like you have x-ray vision in all probablility the blip will appear. However since the blip is elusive look at the point where the X cross as well as the corners of the book. You should notice the pattern of white and the white margins of the two pages also.
The aim is to look at both pages at the same time.
