If you want numbers lets look at one page with an average of 330 words. When we analytcally read because we need to understand a proof or formula we may will often read the page 3 or more times. 3 times at 90 WPM is 11 minutes. More often than not we are looking at the details to try and understand the broad concept of the formula.
Applying PhotoReading 1 second during the PhotoReading stage and say 6 superreads and dips at 30 seconds a page = 3 minutes 1 second. Lets say we got the concept at this point and now we want detail 1 to 2 minutes tradional reading. So you get the same information in half the time. Remember this is for a subject that you need to know in detail and requires analytical thinking.
The trap that many people fall into is that the first activation pass or 3 don't necessarily produce "the answer" so they drop it and go to traditional reading.
The advantage of layering is you get to come back and check your purpose and your mind probing questions. You work with the book not waiting for the book towork on you.
