Hello all.

My goal one day is to be a full time screenwriter. Is the best course of action to actually photoread as much screenplays as possible and let all the information soak into my inner mind for spontaneous activation, or do I need to be more specific when stating my purpose? For example, to improve my writing.

I was never quite comfortable with the improve my writing purpose because it seemed so general. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thank you.

To entertain or inform others, one must be informed oneself. Writers read, a lot. Read widely, read often, and PhotoRead. And read outside of your interests. Challenge yourself, your biases, your preconceptions. Your hook, your interest, your motivation, is that all of it will feed your ability to write and contribute to others. Writers read.

PhotoRead as many screen plays similar to the style you want to write just before a writing project and see what happens.

Yes, but be careful about being imitative. If you read books about writing you will see that this is generally eschewed as an erroneous approach. You need to develop your own "style" as a writer. Basically you need to develop your own thoughts, and forget about "style". To develop your thoughts you need to develop your information, your awareness, your level of knowledge.
