Hi People

I'm wondering if somebody can do me a huge favor and tell me where I can get good quality info to learn NLP. I want to learn as much as I can, in as much detail as possible. I've looked on the web before, but was faced with a whole lot of sites that just offered "free articles" and not in-depth tutorials. Is there anything like I'm looking for, on the web?

Any ideas, I'll consider valuable.
Cheers for now

Grant,

I personally love this site http://www.nlpuniversitypress.com/

Perform a search on all forum at LS, there's been plenty of dicussion in the past.

Perform a search using the big search engines will also yield great results.

I've purchased the 'Rex Sixes' NLP courseware... have yet to get through it, too many things on the go, I'll eventually get there of course. NLP is a very interesting field, I'm an amateur at it, but know that it will serve you well.

There are other members who may wish to comment that have extensive experience. Give them time to respond ... they frequent the board often and it's a matter of time before the 'big guns' give you more information.

Love Light and Laughter,

Michael

Hi Grant, there are alot of good resources to use, I believe that Michael posted the one with the most information. As far as learning NLP, you might want to order some Bandler Videos from purenlp.com, and then use new behavior generator after watching some of them. Also there are several tape sets you can buy, like Michael also mentioned (I have the Rex Sikes tape set as well, LOONNNGGGG!!).

What specifically would you like to use NLP for? For self improvement you might want to just stick to the paraliminals, since they are partly NLP based.

For sales, try Maxpersuasion.com

There are some great books by L. Michael Hall, "The sourcebook of Magic" which basically is a cookbook of patters to use on yourself or others. And "The Users guide to the Brain" which is a transcript from a training seminar, I believe.

You also might enjoy "persuasion engineering" by Bandler, great book.

Also, if you're a photoreader, head over to your local university and photoread/direct learn all the NLP books you can get your hands on.

Oh yea, one more I can think of, check out some books by Kevin Hogan, he's written some pretty good stuff.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

George

Hi Grant,

I don't really have anything to add to the resources already mentioned except to add that NLP is extremely "hands-on." I tried learning NLP through books but the problem with this approach is for the learning to really be effective, you need to practice, preferably with someone who has been trained.

After almost 10 years, I was finally able to go to an NLP Practitioner course and complete it about a year ago. It was by far the best investment of time and money I've ever made! People around me literally couldn't believe the changes I went through.

I now have an understanding that I could never quite grasp from books of the tools and skills needed to make further changes and tweaks. Plus, I have the confidence to help others if they want.

Actually, as I was typing I did think of a very high quality source of articles: http://www.steveandreas.com/. Steve is one of the "first generation" NLPers that worked and studied with Richard Bandler and he is definately one of the pioneers in the field.

I really hope that your reading leads you to a Practitioner course as it did me. I guarantee it will be a life-changing experience .

Have Fun!
Mike

Hi Michael, George, and Mike

Thank you very much for the links and ideas.

I'm also interested in Rex Sikes stuff including "Mind Design", it seems affirmations are not as effective as asking yourself the best questions. I've considered making a subliminal CD full of "puzzling questions" for my brain to go on the hunt for answers. Questions like "How can I create the bliss I desire right now?" and "How can I plan for the future?" and "What do I really want?" If subliminal affirmations don't really work, why not try subliminal questions, or a CD packed with double induction questions. By the time the CD is finished one's mind will be working at all the "puzzles" given to it, creating the solutions right up front.

Anyway I got carried away there a bit, but I do hope I will find good and better reasons to use NLP, and that will justify my desire to invest in a pricy program.

My understanding so far of NLP, correct me if I'm wrong, is it's a set of tricks and tools used to access your mind's resources, to give you the results you want, in very short a time, and very elegantly. Part of the problem with me is that when I try to do, what I think is called a "pattern" on myself, reading and visualizing at the same time for me, is very difficult. I don't know if it's my impatience with it that's the problem or my lack of concentration, but following a script and doing the exercise at the same time feels impossible.

Are there such patterns that you can just read, and don't have to do eye-movements, which I find very irritating, because then you have to read the script out the corner of your eye . Or how do you do it?

I would like to use NLP to become more "whole" and to, if it's possible, to program my mind with Edward de Bono's thinking skills so that my mind automatically follows the process of each thinking skill when I'm faced with a situation that needs it. How do you suggest I do this with NLP? I feel alot of Edward de Bono's stuff is excellent. I know his thinking skills are supposed to be more conscious work, but if only I could automatically draw upon the richness of it, when I need to, it would be great.

I don't know if a NLP Practitioner course, is where I want to go yet, but Mike I will consider it for the future.

I should invest in more books as well, the only book by Bandler I have is "Reframing", found out later that I should have got "Frogs into Princes" instead, I'm hoping to pick it up at a 2nd hand booksale soon.

I've yet to find a use for persuasion, I'm not a manager, I don't sell, and I don't really want to twist somebody's arm. What do you guys use Persuasion Engineering" for?

Another question I have is how do you find good models, people to model for certain traits and behaviours? Or is it best to just imagine being like this or that?

Thanks for your help guys.
Grant

Hi Grant, since you don't need to persuade or sell anybody, you probably can get most of the changes you need through the paraliminal tapes and Regular genius code image streaming.

As far as models go, I usually photo read a book by somebody I'd like to model, and then use new behavior generator for a specific behavior. Also TV and Movies are also great source for models.

As far as de Bono you might benefit from the "borrowed genius" image stream every day for a few weeks.

The reason I like persuasion engineering so much is that it is just a kick to read. It generally gives me a more playful attitude towords life in general.

Life is a playground and its alwasy recess.

Ignore the Manditory Satanism I throw in the first few paragraphs, and you've got yourself a good introdution to the Art. For specifics, check your library for anything by Bandler or Grinder.

HI GRANT,
I understand what you mean about the ads; I write ads. It takes a lot of space to explain some products; depending on what I'm writing about I may apply the rule of thumb "A little bit of knowledge, is a dangerous thing" The bottom line is what makes that product unique. At some point you'll need to get your feet wet. Experiments can be expensive so here is a company that is a little more forgiving and will let you return tapes and get your money back within a reasonable time, of course. http://www.lifeskills1.com/stress.htm

For those who find it difficult to us books and do the exercise. At the same time, But are kind of stuck with the written material, read the section into a tape recorder. It's a will known fact now that the brain cannot tell the difference between imagined or real experiences. ( At least instruments used so far indicate the brain is reacting the same to ether stimulus.) On average it takes about 30 days to develop a habit.

Don't worry about making the study period a habit,(The material should draw you in like a book you can't put down, revealing new and interest things) concentrate on taking every opportunity to practice whatever it is. If it's a physical motion, say something you normally do with your right, you want to do with your left hand as well. In your mind you may have it down, you believe, your doing it when your supposed to, and you feel the sprite, because it's something you really want to do. But, the left arm has undeveloped mussels in the area necessary to perform the feat properly, So repeating the motion strengthens the mussels and develops the, mussel memory = reflex. In JUDO one of the requirements is a student most performed each throw so many times before advancing.
Good Luck.
