quote:

You can turn pages at 25,000 words per minute, however you won't be understanding or learning what you are seeing in any great detail. If you look at these courses closely, the "image reading" part of the system is often followed by subsequent phases where you have to read at slower rates to "activate" the material you've read.
[...] If you want further evidence, take a look at the results from the 2003 Speed Reading World Championships, held in the UK:[...]
If systems such as PhotoReading work, why don’t we see much higher results in these types of events?

I think it is a good question.

That question has been asked before. Search the forum.

I don't know of anyone using PhotoReading who has enetered the event. I guess PhotoReaders have a different purpose.

Hi,

Alex, so what is the purpose? Isn't it greater speed with better comprehension?

Personal use and benefit. Everyone has their own so not everyone is bothered to enter contest to read stuff that doesn't necessarily serve them. If there were a substantial prize amount involved there might be some PhotoReaders who would take up such a challenge.

Aah, that what you meen by purpose? I though u meant that reaching such speed is not the purpose ! but u beleive that PRers can compete with such levels? I heard that some advanced speed readers can reach over 5,000 wpm!

PhotoReading starts at 25,000 to 55,000 wpm (with books) and slows you down to reach the level of comprehension you need. It allows even a beginner to get their reading done in 1/3rd the time. PhotoReaders can finish a 75,000 word book in 20 minutes and have 80% comprhension. This isn't just multiple choice test or true false questions. It's a level of comprehension where you can discuss the book in detail for 5 minutes or more.

At the PhotoReading retreat we spent 30-minutes with a books between 75,000 words to 120,000 words. Everyone was able to talk about their book in detail.

The biggest difference in the approach between speed reading and PhotoReading is memory.

When you speed read the information doesn't go into long term memory, you're using short term memory. So while the information may be remembered immediately after reading it's forgotten rather quickly.

PhotoReading goes into the long term memory and activation creates the neural pathways that access the memory. I'm sure I am not the only one from the retreat who can discuss the book we activated in that 30-minutes even now.
