There is your answer why PhotoReading is not more popular. You want proof before doing it. Well that's the case of the majority of people. The ones willing to suspend their doubts do give it a go.

While you are lamenting it does not appear more popular it has taken off Japan considers the system important enough to have translated the course and trained Learning Strategies has trained 19 instructors for Japan alone.

because i've tried systems before... tony buzan mind mapping, etc where it says you can unleash parts of your brain's power... but nothing has worked, hence, i'm a little skeptical even though i really want to learn)

How long have you "tried" them and how?

By the way to "try" means to expect failure. You need to ever do or not do. Tony Buzan's mind mapping does work however people are so judgemental about their artisit ability they labour the process too much in the early stages. The true talent with mind mapping comes as you mind map.

now how does the mind grasp information so quickly? if you're photoreading, cant you read like 1 per second...? how does the mind process this?

How does the mind know you're hungry, How do you know you need to take a bathroom break? How does the mind know this? Brain research just got started about 1997 when access to equipment like fMRIs became more accessible for reasearch. Some of the things people thought about the brain are proven to be false. Like the "synaptic gap" is not a gap at all. tiny dentrils grow to fill those gaps.

So the exact how can only be guessed at. However we do know a couple of things.

The eye alone is able to pick up 10,000,000 bits of information per second yet we are consciously only aware of 40 bits a second.

We also know that we have a preconscious processor. If you don't believe this explain your habits. The things you do without thinking. Even things like driving a car are handled by your preconscious processor. Your reflex reaction when someone throws a ball your way is run by your other than conscious mind. The information that a ball was thrown your way is data that was processed by your preconscious processor.

PhotoReading assigns the task of processing the information to the preconscious processor. With activation we allow ourselves to become consciously aware of the information to the same or better level of comprehension we have with traditional reading.

how long does it take to do a photoreading course? how many hours? and how many days of practise?

Everyone is different. If you doubt that the system works you probably won't even spend the same amount of time learning it as someone who is willing to suspend their doubt.

Also your Self-Esteem as a learner will either speed up or inhibit the learning process.

You can learn PhotoReading in a weekend with a weekend seminar. If you're serious and apply all the exercises in the home study course you will find that it is about the same amount of time as a weekend seminar.

If you use it.
