One of my goals in learning the system was to enrich my general knowledge. Due to that, in most of the cases in which I consider photoreading a book I do so in order to know more about the subject the book is dealing with and not with a speciefic purpose of "I want to get this and that out of the book".
It seems that most of the activation techniques deal with getting speciefic bits of information which my mind tells me are of interest to me, and not knowing what's in the book as a whole. I never expected having a perfect recall of everything in the book, yet I wonder if "knowing more about what the book deals with" can be my purpose, and if so what should my approach to activating be? Am I missing something?

Thanks
Eran

Hello;
To me; "yet I wonder if "knowing more about what the book deals with" can be my purpose"

Is not a purpose because it is not clear and it lacks the so i can do & it lacks the Why of a purpose.

Why are you reading this book? So you can do what?

Know why you reading the book, what you want from the book and so you can do what and you have your purpose.

Remember your purpose can and should change as you become more and more familiar with the book as you activate. One of the reasons we pause between activation is to check if our purpose has changed or if you are still on track with the purpose we started that activation with. It's easy to lose your focus of your purpose when you start activating.

So the breaks are fro checking in if your purpose has changed, do you want it to change. have you already finished because you have met your purpose.

This is the most helpful thing I have learned on this forum. I formerly felt slightly guilty having my purpose on a 3x5 card beside me and then re-writing my purpose on the flip side of the card half way through my mind map. Thanks!

I thought that was helpful too. It's a very innovative insight. I know that I don't like to feel stuck or committed to a purpose from photoreading from the beginning of the book.

Depending on what I'm reading and what for, how specific my purpose will be will usually differ. If it's pretty general, I would narrow in on what I want to know, as least by my hunches. I don't want to be too specific from the start because then, what if the book doesn't have what I'm looking for? I basically don't want to limit my options.
