Jose Silva said guilt is only worthwhile as a survival technique. 3 conditions need to be met in order for guilt to cease to be a survival technique.
1. If you did wrong to someone, try to apologize or make an attempt.
2. Have you learned the lessons you needed to learn? I'm 100% sure NO lesson ever has to do w/ self hatred as a goal.
3. Have you made a committment to not do it again? Have you made an earnest attempt to committ to change?
If you can answer these questions---then guilt has NO survival value in your present day life. It's time to move on
It's also your choice. Is your life better off w/ self hatred and guilt in it? If so, how so? Or, is your life better off w/ self hatred and guilt released from it?
Sometimes it's easier to hate ourselves because it keeps us from changing. I've seen a number of people who desperately want to change & yet refuse to let go of a belief system that destroys any hope of change.
So, if you have harmed someone & have yet to apologize...then maybe that's something to look at.
Or, if you have refused to learn the needed lessons as a result of your actions--then maybe that's another reason you still feel guilty.
Or, if you have refused to make a committment to change, then maybe that's also a reason you still feel guilty.
BUT, if you have said sorry-sorry. And, if you understand what you needed to learn. And if you are committed to changing your self-----------then dump the guilt trip b/c it is not helping you in any manner.
