Intellectually I'm sure you know that you
ARE a worthy and worthwhile person, but memories from your past history are trying to convince you that what you've done before somehow makes you a bad person now. The things you do don't mean that's who you are. We make choices, and a choice is a decision, whether good or bad, at a specific moment in time. Sometimes we can make so many of the same types of choices that we begin to identify with them. We can choose to identify with the bad choices, or we can decide to identify with the good choices - that too is a choice.
There may be consequences to the choices you've made, and it could be that you have to live with them, but it doesn't mean that you have to identify with them. A single choice does not constitute the whole of your identity. Consider this: the very fact that you have remorse over your past means that you're not the terrible person you think you are. If you really were a terrible person you wouldn't be feeling any remorse.
Do you want to experience the ultimate release? I don't know about your religious affiliations, but God loves you as you are right now in this moment. You don't have to suffer for past wrongs because He's alreday taken care of that for you. What a deal! We've all made mistakes. We've all sinned, and everyone, no matter how good they may seem, falls short of God's glory.
We may think that we can't possibly be forgiven for our mistakes, and so we never even forgive ourselves. But God says I've come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. God sent his Son to be the ultimate sacrifice so you could know what it is to be truly free. He said, "Come to me all who are heavy laden and I will give you Rest". You don't need to change. Just realize that the God of the universe loves you. He cares about you. He forgives all that you've ever done in the past - you just have to ask Him.
You may wonder how God could ever forgive when you can't even forgive yourself. He already knows all the things we've ever done... and loves us anyway. You may feel like hiding from God. You may even feel like hiding from the world. You may wonder how you could possibly face Him after what you've done. Because He's merciful. He loves you in spite of any mistake you could ever possibly make. And if HE forgives you, that's the only thing that really matters. Nothing that anyone else can say means beans.
It takes courage to face God that way. It takes faith. But when you do, you'll know a release that will transcend anything you ever thought possible. If not, you'll never know for yourself the kind of release that only God can give.
I know this may be a lot to digest if it's something you've never considered. Believe me, it's worth your time to explore it further, but if it's something you just can't bring yourself to do right now, then I would suggest New History Generator to help you release the history of your past. Still, I encourage you to talk to a pastor of a good church in your area. Many of the larger churches have counselors on staff. It's free, and you won't have to wait for shipping!
