Hi, Margaret
My mind is only closed to answers that contradict what I know to be true.
I don't want to get into a defensive mode, nor an attacking one. Let's just call me a fellow who believes that the mind's purpose is to *perceive* reality, not to create it. By "reality" I'm referring to the "external" reality that we perceive with our senses, or with the aid of instruments, and also to the "internal" reality of the mind, emotions, or bodily sensations. I do *not* refer to spirits, ghosts, or energy coming out of the body that does not have a physical existence.

I am thoroughly and proudly "closed"-minded on those areas.

One issue, however:It is not nice to ask poeple questions in order to shoot them down afterwards. It is not my intention to do that. However, please remember:that just the same way you and others here have your belief systems, so I have mine. It's as important for me to voice my truths as it is for you and others whose beliefs may differ from mine. [Even more important with regards to the philosophic truths I mentioned above, for them I (a)know to be true and (b)have evidence that denial of those truths has caused much of historical misery.]

I just finished talking this over with my girlfriend Steph who is in substantial philosophic agreement with me. She points out that it's important for me to voice what's *good* with philosophies I don't agree with. To which I reply Amen. Of course, that advice *might* apply to some others here as well!

best wishes,
Mike

Hi, Gallen
Thanks for your clarification. As I now understand, you say that, as you set things up in preparing to heal, you may send out energy at the same time.
I don't say that energy must be received physically by the receiver. I say that in order for anything to go from one location to another, it has to travel the physical distance physically! It has to cross regular 3D space. It has to have some kind of physical existence, some medium to transport the energy, and we need some kind of sensory organ that detects this energy and translates it to ideas, emotions, or healing power.

The mind exists to interpret the data provided by sense organs. There is no such animal as "intuitive" or "mental" perception that bypasses the need for sense organs.

I realize that most folks here disagree with me about this. That's fine with me. I happen to believe that it's really important for everyone here to at least be exposed to a very different point of view--particularly when that point of view is at the basis for everything from the light bulb to the computer!

best wishes,
Mike

Margaret,
One of my teachers was an Inuit shaman. This was maybe 10 years ago. One of the first things I did with this teacher was the making of a medicine wheel, and connecting to the directions. Although I have continued some of what I learned, I hadn't made a medicine wheel for 4 or 5 years. I came across a book
that was very informative on Fools Crow and his methods. It rekindled some things I knew about. I made a medicine wheel last month. The book had something I needed in it at the time. If I am firing on all cylinders, so to speak, when I meditate, I include Fool's Crow in the collective I pay respects to.
To everyone in this forum/conversation, please forgive this sidetrack. Spirituality is an interesting subject. Most of us come from mixed heritage. Some of us that have worked on the "natural sciences" [ :-) ]for many years, come from mixed backgrounds of study. I am very focused , at the time, on Spring Forest Qigong. I have always found qigong to be the best "physical" form of exercise and health available. My background, prior to working with the above mentioned Inuit teacher, was martial arts and related qigong. I started on this path when I was 17 years old. I will be 50 this Sept. When I went into Master Lin's level I clinic(I live in Minnesota), I knew very shortly that Master Lin was a special teacher. The spiritual aspect(openess) that he brings in the qigong exercise, and the healing purpose, along with his level of accomplishment, is very special, and not a common find.

Betsy!! Your initial question might create another burning folder of responses. Pete will hopefully respond to your 3rd question, although I think his initial response is right. The main energy point on the foot is on the bottom towards the front, called the yongquan (sp?) or bubbling spring. Thinking of the foot in general, or toes, probably activates or involves this point. If I think of my toes, I can easily feel the part of my foot involving this point fill with qi. The whole bottom tends to light up. It is like focusing on your palms, it activates the main point there, the laogong points in the center of the palm.

Mike,
I have no problem with your point of view. My wife thinks I'm nuts, always has, but she loves me for who I am. She is totally opposite me. She keeps me grounded! Reread your responses, you do bring in negative statements and/or judgements about other points of view, as opposed to just stating your perspective. Words hold energy, just like everything else. I have no problem with this, as I choose not to react to it. We are living in a time of very polarized points of view. (Pick up the newspaper, and try not to react to what you are reading.) I think your intention is not to do that. Sometimes a sense of humor can be disrespectful to someone else's point of view, or at their expense. Your original post had to do with your physical condition. I think that is a good place to focus. Your health will improve by practicing Spring Forest. I think your awareness of a higher self is very positive, and will help your practice.
One last comment. In your response to Margeret > "Let's just call me a fellow who believes that the mind's purpose is to perceive reality, not create it." I work professionally as an artist. The creative process for me involves perceiving of something that does not exist in 3d, an idea, or vision. I then make that vision something 3d. It is a powerful experience. Although I work on a different level, it is the same way the universe was created. Nothing became something. For me, the creative process involves my mind(and the rest of me), creating reality. Otherwise, I would just be repeating what is already there.

Hi, Gallen
All hail your wife
It's true enough that I do more than just present my point of view, when I encounter a point of view that is opposed to what I know to be true about *basic* premises. It's definitely not always the best way for me to go, but it certainly is understandable.
There's a kind of war going on for the soul of man, Gallen. On one side is the group that says that when you don't understand something, you are supposed to have faith in the speaker. On the other side is the group that says reality and life make sense. I am squarely on the latter side of the argument.
I call it a battle because more lives have been lost during religious wars than due to greed for land.
About your perspective as an artist: it's one thing to create from your mind's eye, and quite another to say the universe outside of you did not exist at one time, and then it popped into existence. From my perspective, everything that exists has its own nature, and always existed, just in a different form than the present. Or...the universe always existed. To say that first there was nothing implies that the speaker either was present at the beginning of creation (in the 5th dimension??) or that the speaker had a revelation of what happened, since pure reason never begins to suggest that something came from nothing.

best wishes always,
Mike

Mike,
This is my last post in this folder.
I was finally angry enough to avoid writing yesterday, when I first read your last post, and decided to wait a day until my head cleared. I don't know why you choose to push people's buttons, and how you can justify this approach, let alone give yourself a pat on back and call it understandable. All the while taking advantage of my passive nature and rubbing it my face with a smile button. I accept your point of view. I don't like how you express yourself. It is felt by me as very antagonistic, and disrepectful of my viewpoint. I am simply stating my viewpoint and experience. I respect your viewpoint. I like light bulbs, I use a computer, I value technology. Technology does not address 'my' spirituality. I am not interested in swaying your soul to my point of view. I am simply stating my experience and belief. It is mine, certainly not yours, and not a subversive sales pitch that threatens your reality, or your soul. Your last statements lay bait I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. I would hope to think that most people in this day and age realize there is a difference between spirituality and religion!!!! As I go back over your posts, I am amazed how many additional topics and issues you manage to lace into answering previous posts.
I find mayself way off course pretaining to Betsy's original post. I find your comments regarding Master Lin 'very' disrespectful. I suggest you regroup on some of the judgements you make, or at least be quiet and keep them to yourself as opposed to putting them out in a way that pushes buttons and gets under people's skin with an opposing viewpoint. I wonder what type of personalities started all those religious wars you mention. I am sure they were intolerant of other peoples beliefs and views, as you are.
You don't have to agree with or accept aspects of qigong regarding the spiritual side. You don't have do anything , or believe anything you don't accept. You do have to respect other people's point of view, if they present it in way that "respects your point of view." This is where people having differing opinions can meet and carry on dialogue, work differences out if there is a problem. Whether you accept it or not, qigong has a spiritual side to it. It is not a religion, or religious pursuit. It is a tool that provides the means for one to improve their health, and if one has interest or desire, explore their spiritual nature. The spiritual aspect of qigong can relate to various Asian philosophies like taoism , again, something that hardly qualifies as a religion, or can involve Buddhism, which is a religion, but doesn't require one's belief in that religion to make use of wisdom offered(I can live by the ten commandments and not be a christian). The spiritual side to qigong compliments all beliefs, or allows one to bring in their own spiritual preference or religion and completely disregard the Asian traditions. It is completely open regarding spirituality or religion. Master Lin is very careful with this, and makes it known that all beliefs, "if" you are prusuing the spiritual aspects of qigong , are good. They essentially say the same things anyway. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. It is so open, that you can disregard the spiritual side and practice qigong as a physical exercise, and still find great benefit. Qigong is thousands of years old. Many teachers, and teacher's teachers have worked very hard practicing these systems and passing them on for the benefit of future generations. ""This calls for respect."" When I stated 'there was nothing, and then there was something', I was referring to taoist principles that I choose to understand the universe by at this stage in my learning. The void, followed by the forming of yin and yang , etc. Saying that doesn't necessarily imply that that "I" was there. That is one possible interpretation, and a ridiculous one. The Inuit teacher I mentioned was teaching information that was passed on by his elders. His culture goes back 35,000 yrs, almost as old a culture as the aborigine. Chinese culture is very old. "Alot" of knowledge has been gained from their incredibly long and collective experience on earth, as human beings. I do not have that depth of experience in my background, certainly my present life, and I am open to learn from theirs, as I am interested in what they know. I show my respect, and look forward to learning from their collective experience. I am very aware that there are people who don't give a hoot about this. That's FINE. It is a free will universe. As long as everybody respects everybody else's space, beliefs, etc., we can proceed and co-exist. Mike, I sincerely wish you the best. Qigong will improve your life, however you decide to pursue it. I am far from perfect, I have alot of work to do. I think you have alot of energy to focus constuctively. I am glad you are there, I consider you a teacher. I learn from you. I ask the higher spirits for us both to be blessed, and all we are connected to , to be blessed. "All our/my relations" (mitake ouyia wasin)- a Lakota blessing

Gallen, thanks so much for sharing your shaman info. Yes, i do feel Chunyi Lin is a special person if not an outright Master.

You are most blessed & fortunate to have met him in person. I hope i get the opportunity to do so one day.

Mike, try not to take this post to you in a negative spirit. Your writing comes off as though you are smirking at people. When your writing is smirking in manner & you then add a , it just makes the smirking even greater.

Listen, you have cancer. Cancer eats away at people. There's some kind of a connection in your cancer and how you write. I also wish you all the best because you really do need help.
