Hello fellow qigong students. I have a few questions. I know I can be dense at times so I'll go ahead and claim that for my confusion. I just finished watching the tapes last night and I'm really excited about getting started. I would love to practice on myself first but here's where the confusion comes into play. How would I perform small universe? Would that be like the movement of yin and yang or would I have to do so in meditation? Also, how would I open up C7 on myself? Again, maybe I'm really dense, but I would appreciate some help on this. Thanks in advance for any insight that is given.

Hi Amanda,
Good questions. We are all dense in the physical sense!
Regarding C7 , you can open it from your front side. You can see what you are doing from the perspective of your third eye (inner vision), along with the intention of what you are doing. This is in reference to doing the actual physical movement (sword fingers, etc.) Just point at the throat area and see the C7 and direct your energy work there. You can access the whole spine the same way. Other options would be seeing yourself in front of yourself, again third eye, and doing swordfingers, etc., just like you were working on someone else. Or, just meditate and envision the whole thing. The first one I mention may be a good place to start, or the second option I mention.
I often incorporate some yoga type stretching in my exercise. Sometimes , some of that movement deals with literally accessing those areas of the back more readily. It is possible to reach the C7, the middle of the back and the base of the spine. This is not necessarily better, just a more physical experience. I will actually use this physical flexibility to open my own small universe, using my hands, passing the energy from my left to my right hand as I go up my back to the kidney area, direct my energy from there up to the top of my spine, picking it up with my left hand again and moving it up and down the front to another cycle. This is something that just came up for me. I can't say it is an appropriate method. It works for me. It is of course possible to just move the energy around like you do in the small universe meditation. That certainly opens it. A brief inner period of visualization, as you open up and merge with the universe and relax.
You have physical and non physical choices involving these things. The non physical is great to develop, as it develops the third eye, (connects to long distance healing, which is essentially the same thing...)The physical movement is just that. A nice physical expression of what you are doing inside. I am not a yoga practioner, but adapt aspects of yoga here and there to enhance the physical aspect by gaining flexibility. I see this for myself as something for the time being, and a personal preference, not a program approach for everyone. The other day, I did a healing session with someone, and just sat down next to them, did a healing on them in meditation/prayer, with no physical movement. It all works.

Gallen,
Thanks for the information. I will try this tonight. I think I will start with the small universe exercise from level I (meditation) and then perform the work on me that I need. I just really had no clue where to start performing the work on myself. I would love to do some work on my husband, but he is really a skeptic... he thinks that this is a hoaxs. But once I perform the work on myself (first to remove two warts on my fingers), I think he might come around. If he doesn't, I will try what you suggested as the second choice and perform a healing on him mentally, to help bring his cholesterol level back down to normal. I'll also be using this to work on my Multiple Sclerosis. I feel great now that I have been using level I, but I think I will feel even better with the new exercises of level II. Thanks again for your insight in this matter. (A healer in every family, a world with out pain).

Amanda,
You can also bring your husband into your small universe meditation as a visualization. Bring him in with positive intentions, get him started, then comfortably go back to focusing on yourself for the duration. I like to visualize friends or family I bring in as smiling, sitting in a full lotus, and filled with light. I often envision a huge sun filling us all with transformational light, then start the meditation. I am not sure, but sometimes it takes a minute or so for me to see some of my friends/family that way. I figure that shift, from them perhaps appearing a bit gray or carrying a negative emotion, etc., to smiling and light, maybe the healing happening for them that you activate. I like your choice of doing the small universe, then working on yourself. You are accomplishing two complete things that way. I do this with the level 2 exercises in the same way.
I would suggest not pushing qigong too much, regarding your husband. Give yourself the time to take care of yourself, gain experience, and learn more about qigong. Sometimes it takes time to hone the language that speaks to non believers. Sometimes there are small openings where a few words can be interjected here and there. Set with it awhile. Your progress will speak volumes. Don't try to sell it. Be observant of yourself and him as you do meditations and visualization involving your meditations and healing work. It can be very rewarding to do the work, and see results. Acknowledgement for your work can come from the inside too, as a great feeling. You don't have to get it from the outside.

I just registered on this site(7-1). Amanda your question on how to start self healing was one that I hoped I could get an answer to.
Gallen thanks for the information. You appear to be deep into qigong. I think it would be inspiring to us rookies if you would please share some of your healing success stories with us. Thank you.

Gallen,
I'll try to hunt down your successful healing story. I'm looking foward to the day I can post one. Maybe some of our other members can share some stories with us. I'll have to go back and check the old posts.
