Aloha Bluebird,
All sorts of things may come up in meditations whatever their length. Thirst, physical pain, painful memories, visions, colors, and other mind chatter may move in and out. The goal is to go into the emptiness.
There are as many meditations as there are people. In Spring Forest Qigong, meditation purpose is to get into the emptiness. In the classroom/retreat's guided meditations, everyone ends together. The length of the meditation is appropriate for the group at the time and If one needs to use the restroom or ends up falling asleep, they do.
There are also steps and variations in moving toward a full fast, which includes no water. Guidance into the how's, where's, and why's are important and will show up in your life/training when your ready and it's needed.
Much Love, Shawn
