Well, I started the SFQ course recently with great expectations. I have had very good luck with other forms of meditation and alternative things, so I had high hopes. I have to say that I am not so sure that I am doing anything more than standing around moving my arms and legs, etc..... It's just not sinking in like I expected, nor do I feel any significant results or even attraction to it.. yet.

Tell us how you reaLLy feeL!
Once I had this session where I was meeting a powerful healer to help me experience something. I anticipated the encounter and had high expectations. I felt nothinG. I remembered the technique and method he used, and repeatly did it to 'myself', for a few wks afterwards. Again, nothinG. One time after I made the effort again, nothing happened, and I went to clean up. I was taking a warm shower, relaxing, and booM. I had a fullblown encounter with what I was supposed to be experiencing during all this effort, and, the initial meeting with this powerful healer.
Hang with it. It might be different than how you are "expecting" it.

Chunyi Lin has a great sentence in the workbook that i never noticed. It expains his concept of emptiness perfectly.

quote:
Relax yourself into a state of being so that when you do not focus, you feel something, and when you do focus, the feeling disappears. page 32 of SFQ1

That is one terrific point to assimilate. I know i missed it the first time. I do it now & experience energy effortlessly; whereas it was hit & miss before.

good luck

Maybe if you continue to do the exercises and meditation, and wait and see if after several months, if you notice any improvement in your body, ailments or disposition. You might not notice anything right at the start but it would still be making positive changes for you. Give it a chance.

Maesoph,

First, I was wondering what your expectations are from SFQ since you mentioned you have good luck with other forms of mediation and alternative things. What have the other methods brought you that satisfied your search and why are you still searching? Is it just for knowledge? Would it be you want to see healing takes place for an illness? .... Just all guessing in my part. After all , there are many forms of Qigong, that must be why one form does not suit the interest of all.

Then from your first post on "back pain", you mentioned you have back pain with no obvious problem at all. My guess come to believe you are taking the course hope to improve the healing for your back pain. Sometime when our expectation is high on a specific issue, it might be more difficult to appreciate the full strength of what we are presented.

Try to approach SFQ without the expectation to heal your back pain and give it sometime. Do it just for general appreciation of your "Qi" and general health. If you still don't like it, don't give up the search to improve your health and healing.

I am not saying who's method is good or right. The follow is just from my own readings:

The book Healing Back Pain (The Mind-Body Connection) by John E. Sarno, M.D. Talks about his experiences with his patients and their paths to healing back pain. Some of the cause are physical, some physical back pains are from source we normally don't even think of . Until we recognize it, we can not deal with the healing.
My observation of that seems to be similar to the concept of searching the cause of blockage in Qigong... physical or emotional... Until we recognize it consciously, stopping the pain or removing the blockage is only temporary. Again, I must make it clear that I am learning Level I of SFQ therefore by no mean an expert on blockage.

If you have not read the book, take a look. It might at least take your mind off your own back pain.
