Not even sure if I spelt the disease correctly. Shortly since I've arrived back in Vancouver to visit my family, I went with my mother to a family friends house. Their son had suffered from polio (heh, please correct my spelling, but i'll continue regardless ) when he was a young child and now he has a disability with his movement (he walks like someone who is heavily mentally-challenged) but his mind is there and I spent hours while my mom dined, speaking of ethics, history, theory of relativity with their son. I am very fond of him, but I was wondering (since I'm learning about Qigong and it's offspring techniques of healing) if it is possible for masters of the practice (healing powers) to be able to cure or bring back his ability which this terrible disease has taken from him. He also can only focus with one eye at a time (or maybe not, but this is an observation) as one eye focuses on me and the other goes lazy, and this the vice versa occurence when he changes angles to talk to me.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. Polio has responded well to exercise though. An Australian Nurse managed to help many Polio victums to mantain mobility through helping the patients exercise the limbs. (I think this was in the 50's, or earlier have to research some history ) it didn't guarantee that the affliction didn't return at a later age but it did help maintain ease of mobility and avoid being confined to a wheel chair after surcumbing to polio.

In any case I'd be inclined to believe that for polio the best benefit will be if the individual does the SFQ exercises daily rather than the passive approach of having someone only apply healing.

His movement is so distorted though Alex. I wouldn't imagine him being able to do practice the techniques correctly.

There is benefit from doing the exercises just in your mind. I'm sure any attempt at the complete physical exercises would help even more.

Remember the six keys of success? I don't recall doing the exercises correctly being on that list.

You are perfection.

Correct - is the intention, along with that is the actual movement that he is capable of becoming, over time, more and more fluid and opening his channels. It's not so much how well you perform the movements its the fact that you form the intention to do the movements. You can do the active excerises entirely via visualisation, no actual physical movement. The act of physically moving keeps you focused on the intention and allows you to more completely empty your mind. So even if the movements appear, to the observer, to be unco-ordinated, in the doers minds eye they will be aware of them selves performing them gracefully and fluidly, thus opening the energy channels. From that comes the real rewards of qigong.

The active exercises can be done standing, sitting or lying down and if necessary entirely in the minds eye. The powerful reason for actually physically doing it is to maintain the focus the mind tends to wander off by keeping the body in motion we know where we were up to in out intention. It may not be physically possible to perform all of the exercises (I still have my days when I have trouble with the 7 steps I can explain why or not do them when I know they are going to give me trouble but I can modify and I know from experience the reward outweigh the wobbly active exercise.

For the record I found the seven steps the most benefical exercise and the first thing I focus on doing after a flight (after a shower). No jetlag. I've noticed by me its more my sense of balance that has been thown out of sync rather than my adjustment to the different time zones.

He could perform the sitting meditation following Master Lin on the tape, moving the energy through the energy centers. As this clears the blockages, he'll be able to perhaps do the active exercises sitting or laying down.
