I'am a 54 year old, female and currently an erratic practitioner of Spring Forest Qi Gong. I practiced last year for 1 year, then stopped. I resumed again and practiced for 6 mos. and stopped again. Therefore, I've spent some time with it. I started doing it for a specific health reason which it did some to ease up some. However, I started to experience pain in my left hip and top of left foot which I attibuted to prolonged standing in the horse position. I would practice for about 30-40 minutes 6-7 days a week. As a result of these pains and lack of weight loss, I discontinued the practice and started doing Yoga. I find myself missing it and the little benefit I did get from it, but Yoga helps me feel more flexible and the hip and foot pain seems to be less. Is there a problem with doing both? Sometime, my time is limited and I can't do both and I have this dilemna over which one to do. Are there any suggestions??

In the past I've done Yoga, only as a breathing and stretching exercise just before doing the SFQ. It was fine for me. The word is if you use any energy system in addition to SFQ, then you should allow a 30 minutes period between the two.

You are perfection.

Hi Morningstar:

Good questions. So many choices and so little time.

I like to hike and play tennis and sometimes I have to choose between these and SFQ.

What I do is set my alarm for 1 hour and 15 minutes before I have to get up every day. I then do my active exercises come hell or high water to start my day off. With a name like Morningstar I've got to believe this is solution, too! Then if I have more time during the day I do the sitting meditation and target the noon time which is suppose to be best. Sometimes when I know I won't have time later in the day I get up 2 hours earlier.

Doing that base SFQ every morning has really made all the difference in making steady progress on so many fronts.

When dealing with time management, always do the big important things first and leave the small stuff for tomorrow. Decide what is really important to you and get the noise out of your lifestyle. For example, I almost never watch TV and I'm convinced it is one of the reasons I have such a rewarding and rich life.

Finally, don't be shy about putting yourself on the weekly SFQ group healing session. It really helps a lot.

Love,
Agent B
