Usually listening to it once with the idea in mind that you will be comfortable studying will bring results. You might wind up using it daily for a while or just once and the ball starts rolling. Best bet use it once and see.
Mind map the book so that you have an understanding of the subject. The mind maps become useful tools for revision.
Normally you do a quick review of your study notes after you study session, this helps to put it into your memory. Then before you commence your next study period you review them again. The first review would take about 10 minutes and later reviews about 3 minutes each. review your notes daily for a week and then once weekly to keep them fresh in your mind. The week prior to the actual exam you will preview all your notes and brush up on anything that you feel you've forgotten. As well as doing that in the week prior to the exam you will PR the relevant text books daily for good measure.
Do this with the notes from your classes and your notes from your text. If you really need an idea of what is going to be in the exam... ask the lecturer what your main focus should be. If you can corner them and ask them questions they will often give you clues as to what they consider important or not. Most lecturers want you to succeed it doesn't really look good if their class as a whole fails. So Get whatever information about the exam early they are probably less inclined to inform you the week prior to the exam.
