There's a lot of contraversy over subliminals. The famous "drink coke, eat popcorn" study was a fraud, which never happened. Double-blind studies show the power of subliminals to be more an effect of the user's belief than the tape's unheard messages.
If I was going to use the two technologies together, I would get a subliminal video and listen to it with the sound off and a paraliminal on. The reason is that the video's I've seen show the image in a way that the conscious mind can know it's there, and perhaps even recognize it, but the text is outside the fovial vision.
For a substitute to paraliminals, I do listen to the Personal Celebration series when I'm working. It's also good as a way to fall asleep, as you can direct full awareness to the tape. If you do wish to listen to it eyes closed and with headphones, the vocal effects are really top quality. I also have recorded Daoists sayings for when I just want something profound, but not distracting.
