The tongue just touches the roof of the mouth behind the teeth. I find it a case of lifting the tongue. Saying touch the roof of your mouth gives it a destination so I don't think it's necessary to take the dentures out.
I think lifting your tongue prevents you from breathing though your mouth as relax your jaw drops, It at least helps keep the mouth shut 
Anyone else notice that?
