Level 1 Page 16
5) inhale; open your hands wide to the sides - use your elbows to guide the movement
and your hands feel the energy.
6) Exhale as you bring your hands in, collecting more energy.

I do not feel any energy in all the movements. It's just not there. To imagining und visualizing it, I need to know it's coming or going.
I know to keep the hands open (fingers spread) to receive energy. Isn't it positive? But now the palms facing to the earth, with the fingers close together which is now negative.

I think nobody had a problem with this beautiful exercise, but to me, I must first know which way to look before I can visualize it. Can someone help me with that?

You are not alone. This is probably the one exercise that most people have difficulty with. Well this one, and the whole idea of going into the emptiness.

This was the last one for me to start feeling anything while doing it. It was one of those thing, as a lot of SFQ has been for me, where I only realize I'm getting into it after I've been into it. Only after I stop working at visualizing and looking for feelings and just go through the movement completely relaxed and contented, do I find myself slip out of the exercise and say, "Hey, I was feeling X while doing this part and Y while doing that part".

As for instructions as to exactly what to visualize and feel, I believe Master Lin has purposefully chosen the level of instruction. This can be the most difficult movement to physically get coordinated and become relaxed and comfortable while doing. I think that the energetic experience for this exercise comes when you start to achieve the relaxed and comfortable mental attitude of just being in the exercise and feeling whatever you are feeling. When you stop trying to direct or to find anything.

I can now understand why Gallen has called this is favourite movement.

You might consider searching the forum on this subject, there have been some very nice threads on the subject.

The common advice of relax and do it, is probably most important for this movement.

I have played with visualization in this one a lot, and one that I particularly like is the image of being surrounded by energy like and fog or a playful mist. I'm not directing the energy so much as just playing with it. Scooping it up and throwing it. Hugging it and making a pillow. Inhaling it's sweet fragrance. Watching the wispy streams it makes as my hands sweep through it.

Although, I've add this one imagery I've used I think is all about doing the exercise and being in the now.

Hi John

I go along with what Iam2 is saying here. I found it the most difficult exercise to coordinate and had to acommodate to the breathing and more intricate movements as well as the visualisation aspects of it. I had the other disadvantage of having quite recently had a major operation when I started and had to go easy because the stretches actually hurt. I very gradually sorted it all out to my own satisfaction and then started to read some of the posts about it with interest. Whether or not Gallen said this I ascribe to him the image of having the energy as bright light flooding into my crown chakra when you hold your hands over it. I also have the image of feeling that energy going down through the various chakras as you put hands together and lower them to the lower dantien region. I don't always hold that image but if feels good when I do.

Increasingly my feeling about this exercise is that it is a very satisfying thing to do but it took a long timfe before I was of that opinion. I think I liked the breathing of the universe best initially because my connection with the energy was so direct. In harmony of the universe it's like now I connct with an inner happiness.

Iem2, It's always a pleasure to read your posts. Every little bit helps. But here is a lot more to it. PhilH added a link to his post, http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/qigong/qigong3.htm
The first time I see something like this. It's just great, the way it is explained more in confidential details. Now I know why we have to stand with the legs spread a little more than
shoulder-with, and point the toes straight ahead, knees bend and so on. Right now, I feel like a mule, were you have to bang it in. First I thought this link is from our office, now I'm not.
I just got another one today, haven't got the time to check it out yet http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/qigong/qigong3.htm

Master Linn does the best anyone can do, with him that's the only way to go. He doesn't mind when we step sideways to get more information or explanation. So we individuals can get a better understanding for an even better progress.

I just took a look at that link. I remember reading it a long time ago.

I didn't see how it related to your topic.

The techniques demonstrated on that page was Moving Qi, Breathing of the Universal Energy, and some closing exercises, but not the Harmony of Universal Energy.

In the animated gifs I don't like the unevenness of the arm movement, but thats just probably a matter of the recording. Having the course I would refer to Master Lin's demonstrations and instructions.

The admoninal breathing method described on the page is not the method Master Lin describes.

Kev, I see you in the same boat. You're just a little further ahead of me.
My negative attitude won't be that easy and I have a hard time to feel the energy, but as soon I switch over to do the Harmony-- its gone completely. I like this exercise very much, even so I can't straighten my arms and hands. It keeps my mind from wandering.
At least I've made the best progress with the 7 Steps. I just keep the supporting leg slightly bend and concentrate on the energy flow only. Pulling it out of the earth to the next spot, then follow it down all the way before I let the heel down. A ballerina will stand on the toe for a long time while she is occupied with her act. That leg will constantly move to keep the balance without thinking about it. Not just me, I think everybody had trouble with that.
Now I can rather concentrate on the healing, which the doctors couldn't do. There was something wrong at my spine for years. Now it's completely gone. At the throat my vocal- cord had an open wound and was bleeding over six years. I'm still watching it and can talk a lot better now. The water retention in the legs is still there, but I have control over it with a special massage and exercises from the Taoist theory. Since then I don't have to ware the long-sleeve socks anymore.

Iam2. Thank you. Now I know these webs don't come from our SFQ office. It's one of the 1000 Qigongs out there Master Lin has mentioned.
