I'm hesitant to begin SFQ as I (perhaps mistakenly ) think that eventually the amount of time spent doing SFQ will need to increase as well as the level to maintain the energy flow...Many years ago I belonged to a metaphysical school that followed that same theme...eventually it seemed to run my life as I had to spend so much time with exercises,meditation,etc..that after completing the first year course I said "thanks for the Certificate, but I've had enough". I just wanted to explore the inner mind & improve the quality of life I Had with children, husband,job,etc..not become so absorbed by inner discovery that everything else became a secondary consideration where time was concerned..

Hi Grannie.

SFQ isn't something that you have to spend a certain amount of time, or a lot of time, doing. If you get SFQ level 1, one thing you will encounter regularly is Master Lin saying that there is no right or wrong way to do qigong, just good, better, best. If you practice 10 minutes a day, that is good. If you practice 30 minutes 3 times a week, that is better... He also says that the more you practice, the better, and that practicing every day is better, and that 2 hour sessions are best, but he then makes it clear that if you can't do 2 hour sessions, then 30 minutes a day is still good. Another thing I read is that he recommends practicing a lot the first 2 months to get a good start, then backing down the amount you practice.

Personally, I have level 1, and I am a full time mom with a husband and 2 little boys, one still preschool age, so I don't get much time to practice. 30 minutes about 5 times a week is the most I can hope for. I am not experiencing in miracle cures or anything, but practicing qigong feels good, some days really good, and my days seem to go better when I practice in the morning.

Grannie, I'll say the msjoleary is right about the good, better, best guide-lines. I personally don't recall advice of doing a lot at the beginning and then backing off. I suspect that is a defacto situation of most people starting anything.

I'll just add the note of regularity in practice. It is better to do 30 minutes once a day, everyday, rather than doing a 3 1/2 hours meditation once a week. If you can do the meditation at the same time each day that is better. But every little bit is good.

If your practice grows in duration it is by your choice to progress with your development.

You are perfection.
