I see the restrictions on eating, bathing & drinkin water listed at different places but no mention of how Sex would effect one's Qi. Please comment...

Thanks,
Rick

Hi,
Moderation is best.
There are lots of active or inactive(meditative) exercises within this practice, that allow you to engage in a self practice, doing exercises that compliment your lifestyle on a daily basis.
There are more extreme physical/internal forms of qigong that would be more restrictive to practice, within a 24 hour period of sexual activity. There are all shades of gray too.
If you are basically healthy, you don't really have to be too concerned with this aspect in regards to restrictions. Common sense works here too. Nothing wrong with waiting a short period of time afterwards.
As I said, there is always some aspect of the practice to engage in, regardless of your kidney energy level at the time. Otherwise, someone with weak kidney energy/kidneys couldn't practice qigong, which certainly isn't the case. You will gain a better understanding of this practice over time. There are ways to replenish kidney energy, or feed the kidneys.
The physical aspect of you, that sexual activity involves, is kidney energy. Sort of your battery pack. Although there can be 'specific side effects related to low kidney' energy, the basic "paying attention to self" feeling to gauge this, could be general weakness in doing more physical aspects to your practice.
Meditation, which can be realized as the most powerful aspect to one's qigong practice, is always good, and never restricted, given you aren't in a demanding posture that requires physical strength. Awareness and understanding can be such, that you will be more increasingly aware of these things, and deal with them appropriately, with technique you learn as you progress.
If you 'feel' okay,,, if it feels good to do something within your practice, that is your 'sense' to follow.
You also are storing energy in your practice. You can spend some energy, and still have energy in the bank. Excess, would deplete your funds. 'Saving energy can build a foundation to a higher level practice.' You get to make the choices, and it is always good, better, best, and self compassion. Challenge yourself to progress. Enjoy and live life.

gallen

Thanks for your reply. In being so new at this, I just had to ask as there were other restrictions mentioned.

Does Master Lin ever teach anything about multiple orgasms for men and how to retain semen. Since chinese medicine basically recomends that males hold off on ejaculation as often as possible I find it interesting that Master Lin never teaches any classes on sex or multiple orgasms. Since I'm interested in this subject I'll stick with my books written by Mantak Chia and David Deida. On another note without sounding wierd I can't imagine a Qigong master having the usual american style of 1 orgasm sex and then passing out. I think all highly skilled Qigong practicioners have some secret methods that they use in the bedroom.

Master Lin did discuss a sexual practice at the October retreat last fall. Esoteric practices regarding sexual activities are not the focus of this system. It seemed a bit embarassing for him to go there, but his sense of humor and sincerity helped. I noticed a few people stop taking notes! Ocassionally, Master Lin will share something different, other than the core focus of SFQ, as he knows alot about Chinese culture and practices, and also has some interests or specialties not in the program material, 'predominately' related to healing work and helping others heal, regarding injuries or illness.
A Master, can have a higher purpose that shapes his area of focus within qigong, and his teachings. The questions you ask, don't match the focus or practice of this system, nor the underlying purpose of Master Lin's," a healer in every family".
Use caution lifting subject matter like this selectively out of books. It is not a balanced qigong practice, but rather a specific item.
Higher level qigong practioners do noT all have secred methods they use in the bedroom. Their focus is seldom, if at all, on their sex life.

I should clearify. Their focus is not on sexual technique within their practice of qigong. It is on self healing, healing, and/or self realization .
