Just out of curiousity Brutha have you even tried SFQ? Your challenging questions seem to make it clear that you are a novice.

I haven't and that the reason because I ask.
(I try to get knowledge about it, by asking people that have tried it out, or a least I hope so). Or is it some kind of secret knowledge?

I use "challenging questions" because I want you to answer my questions.
If SPQ is basically no new form and the same as other Qigong that is fine.
But is it is a new/other form I would except that it has diffences and that would be fine too.
No I wouldn't call that it has a Super-Guru how has qualification XY something that make it a "new form".

Brutha you wrote

"I use "challenging questions" because I want you to answer my questions."

Personally, I would be more likely to answer your questions if you were less challenging. I say this to you for two reasons:

1. I feel no need to defend Spring Forest Qigong as I know from my own experience that it works for me

2. I tend to enjoy interactions that I find more respectful to all parties.

I hope you are able to find a way to get the information you are looking for in asking your questions. Before I ordered this program I read a majority of the previous posts on this forum. I found them helpful and they certainly are packed full of knowledge. Maybe you would find it helpful also.

Blessings

Then you could also answer CityShy questions. But you do not seem paying attention to them because they aren't changenling to you...

I cannot comment on the differences from Spring Forest Qigong

This shows also that this forums doesn't answer the above question with simple asking and waiting for an answer.

Most posts in this forum do not seem to make any difference between this form of Qigong and other. (Besides the mentioning of the guru name)

Obviously you are asking can this work for
you. Only you can answer that question.
It works for those of us who work the exercises,
both active and meditative. If you read
enough of the other posts you will see how
it works in other practitioners lives.
But there is nothing that anyone can say to
you to convince you, or anyone else, that it
works. You have to try it yourself to truly
know.

Brutha; it is like trying to describe fresh country air to someone who has always lived in a polluted city.

Be advised that the feeling of love and Universal Energy may put you in shock. It is not for the faint of heart.

No, I do know (or "believe") that Qigong can work for me. (I also think that I have a basic understanding of its princips).
I do also believe that it works for you.
But it is not the only thing that works.

There are a lot of programs/technics that work.

Unfortunatly time is finite and I can't try/do all of them. So I have to decide between them. And to make a good decision between different things you have to know how they differ from each other.
And I also believe that many of them share the "feeling of love and Universal Energy".

I see your dilemma. My experience is that
after examining the choices, choose the
one you feel drawn to the most. If you are
not drawn to one particular choice, then
choosing one and going with it is just as
valid. You will learn no matter what you
choose. If you decide that you "made the
wrong choice," then you will have experience
on which to make your next choice.

This is a lot like finding you love someone
and think that you might like to marry her.
But you are afraid to because there might
be someone who you might find later that you
like better. So you keep putting it off until
you lose the first one and keep hesitating
about anyone else who comes along. It really
doesn't matter who you chose. If you can't
find anything wrong with someone and you
love them then marrying them is the right
choice. It may not work out in the long run,
but you will grow in the process. Life is not
about getting everything right the first time.

I'm sure Gallen can shed some light on this.
Especially on different disciplines.

A good decision is sticking with it once you start. If you drop it before it can work you'll notch it up as as a bad decision. As noted there are many forms of Qigong with varying amounts of compelxity.

If you're looking for one that is simple to learn on your own, rewarding to health and well being, then Spring Forest Qigong is one suitable method.

If you find another supported by a forum that you can learn from a home study course that looks like it has a better mix of complexity to your liking then trust your instinct, go with that.

Instinct is the first phase of Qigong. Asking us to convince you seems to say to us you you want in insurance policy that the process will work. Well check out the guarantee. More than that the forum members cannot give you.

And like what was said in the other thread linked to this. What ever one you do, stick with it. That advise comes from Master Lin himself. He had quite a few masters to study under (chinese masters) I understand that he too asked the question what is the true traditional qigong teaching. Having a history dating more than 3000 years no one could tell him.

There are books that teach simple qigong methods and I personally found Spring Forest Qigong easier to learn and do.

There is no such thing as "Traditional" qigong any more. There are many series of exercises called qigong (moving energy, for a less than perfect translation) taught by different masters. Modified, simplified or enhanced by those who stuck with one instructor, of moving energy within the body, at a time, long enough to learn to notice the energy within them.

As many on this forum can attest. Using Spring Forest Qigong it didn't take them decades to notice the effect of qi within them.

Naturally Chunyi Lin' cultural background led him to teach a form that has more grace and softness than western form. But what is really essential is your motiviation for learning.

Aloha Brutha,

Every time I see your Forum username, I imagine hearing jeffdengr saying "Brother" in Hawaiian slang - Thanks for the smile that comes for me with each of your posts.

quote:
Is SPQ a special program which treis to teach the old chiniese Qigong or is it something different.
If so, what is the advantage of SPQ over traditional Qigong?

Thank you for your question and the lively discussion its developed.

Spring Forest Qigong (SFQ) is a form based on the traditional qigong training as well as the understandings and personal development taught to Master Lin by his teachers in China.

It is also based on his own work and experiences in the emptiness, in meditation, working with and on thousands of people, and the growth and results in his student's development. This makes the work dynamic as well as honoring the strong foundational work done in the past. This allows it to grow to new levels of efficiency and effectiveness.

Its because of the work Chunyi has done to developed his own skill, energy, and ability to see the energy at numerous levels, that he's able to study and contribute to qigong's development.

I like your reference to Gurus. The guru thing is an easy trap we can easily get caught up in. Giving our power and choices to someone else, keeps us from acknowledging responsibility for our own life, actions and results.

He is always saying that he is just a student of universal energy. Master is just a title and that you can do this and more if you're willing to do the work.

One could generalize the systems out there as longevity, healing(medical), psychic, martial arts, or supernatural qigong,

SFQ's Level I and II belong to "medical" qigong which focuses on healing the body on purpose when a person feels sick or developing skills for helping others

This is core to his mission mentioned in an earlier reply.

SFQ's Level III and IV still belong to medical qigong, but also involves super natural qigong too.

There are pieces of longevity and psychic qigong in the system as well, and Chunyi could address some martial arts qigong if appropriate, but that is not its focus.

There are a lot of people taking classes out there and then teaching. There are also a lot of good "qigong scholars" who learn a lot of qigong techniques and information. There are tens of thousands of qigong exercises out there, and if that is what it is about, then may the thickest book win!

SFQ isn't an exercise class. Yes, there are some of what you'd call "traditional" qigong exercises in the Level I and II course, and they were chosen because they create the most benefit in the least amount of time, and are simple.

He has also included exercises and techniques from his own research and personal experience that one won't find elsewhere. Once again it's in there because he found them to create the most benefit in the least amount of time, and are simple.

Like Kaye Lee's personal example, Chunyi is constantly researching and developing ways to heal quicker and more simply -he's not just parroting what someone's taught or wrote. That energy will take one only to a point and then stagnate.

As you know, it's easy to talk and demonstrate exercises, and another thing to teach and live a philosophy of healing, Love, kindness, and forgiveness. Is Chunyi perfect? Nope. But he is an example of someone walking his talk of Love kindness and forgiveness, and purifying his energy.

Chunyi provides an example of someone willing to put in the time and energy daily to make a difference in himself and others, along with being willing to take on a huge possibility like...

A Healer in Every Family and a World without Pain.

I'm sorry there isn't someone with some experience of the other form you mentioned. The focus of this forum is to share their experiences and ask questions regarding their practice of SFQ rather than another one of the hundreds of qigong systems out there.

There are those that visit this forum that have shared and compared with different systems. That has been very productive when used as an example to help explain a topic or concept someone is still not seeing.

Perhaps there is someone in standard Standing three circle qigong system that has also put in the time with SFQ to address your question.

Much Love, Shawn
