Dear Amber:
Amazing things are being done for people with fibromyalgia in the realm of pain control and management through hypnosis. Not only can you get control of the pain, you can also explore for any underlying causes of it, as one of the reasons doctors are so fearful of treating fibromyalgia is they really have a problem finding any underlying cause. Anxiety and stress are generally involved, either as contributing factors, or extenuating from the discomfort - on both accounts, hypnosis can bring a lot of relief.
Sometimes we get into a painful situation (either physically or emotionally), and long after the "real" pain should have gone away, our brains continue to send out the signals that there is still pain there, and many times it isn't there at all, or it is there only minimally - just enough to warn us to be careful.
So along with the pain management clinic, I'd like to suggest you seek out a hypnotist who has been specifically trained in pain control and management (which is a specialized certification) to see if you could get some relief that way.
Cheers!
