Faune,

Hi, thanks for your input. This is the first question I posted and I felt kind of like the new kid in class wondering if anyone was going to talk to me. You guys are really great! As far as forgetting I am the body, I understand what you mean. Truthfully I have gone through periods where if it weren't for kids tugging on me I may have forgotten. Thanks again for reminding me not to repeat past errors, and for the time and thought sent my way.

Marcy

Dear Gallen,

Hi! Thank you for all your input, the kidney deficiency thing did not put me off at all and it would not limit me so don't waste another minute thinking on it. I did not find it limiting. I found the information useful. Couldn't what you relayed be seen as the part of the river dried up and if in fact it was it would not hurt to give a bit of extra attention its way, while at the same time forging ahead with my regular practice.

One thing I do hope you might elaborate on is the standing/ sitting thing in regards to building kidney energy. I would like to know more about this if you wouldn't mind.

As far as the chills they never bothered me, they interested and intrigued me much like the seeming illness begs our acceptance in order to learn of it's message. I am very surprised to find that noone else experiences this phenomenon, I would have thought it to be fairly common. I think the thing I enjoy most about the chilling, the heating, the prickling, etc. is that following their onset I somehow find myself different than what I'd been before them. Do you know what I mean?

In the past years, my meditations have been on truth, on love, and on God minus the CD so I know what you mean about the this type of meditation which I still practice. I look at small universe as more of a workout for the mind muscle. It demands you to stay focused while bordering and sometimes entering into the emptiness. I don't know maybe I sound whack but I love that meditation and believe at this point in myself such discipline is called for.

I must tell you this then I'll let you go. When Qigong first dropped on me I was in the middle of practicing holosync and quite happy with it. Many signs appeared as I questioned if it was alright to continue both. First there was a movie that announced the secret of life as being just one thing, then I saw someone in my meditation telling me remember just one thing. But if that weren't enough, I looked up the topic in the discussion forum and there you were saying pretty much just one thing. How you wrote in the letter at that time convinced me and for that I am most grateful.

Thankyou,
Marcy

Hi Marcy,
I hadn't heard anyone mention chills before, to the degree you did. Chills, tingles, heat, whatever, experienced during or within close proximity is one thing, chills for eight hrs seems like another. Again, regardless, level I active is very effective for self healing, and that is really all one has to know. You can back off it, or modify how you express it, if there are limitations or discomforts. Side effects, the same thing. Do what you are comfortable doing, and listen to your own body as you proceed. By all means, proceed though...
You are obviously self aware and sensitive, so enough said.
Regarding standing or sitting...
It is the simple idea of building and storing or using energy.
If one is depleted, a more demanding physical position or posture, would work against building energy. For some people, that could be as simple as standing, as opposed to sitting. Also, excessive sexual activity would tap the same energy reserve. Getting enough rest, eating properly, etc...
In qigong, you have this internal reference to three dan tiens. In level I, there is emphasis on the lower dan tien, and emphasis on 'physical' healing. Relative to a meditation practice, my own sense is that building the lower dan tien, grounds you and strengthens the 'container', that then can handle higher energies. So establishing that center, then moving up to the heart or third eye center, is a beneficial progression, whether within one meditation, or over time, in a general sense of paying attention to that lower center. As I said, I think many people bypass developing those roots, and go directly to the third eye center. The lower dan tien maybe seeming mundane by comparison to what one feels in the heart or sees in the third eye.
In level II there is a shift to focusing in the heart center. Also, there are heart centered meditations utilizing mantra, that some people learn at retreats. They still start and finish in the lower dan tien, and relative to a heart centered practice, one still shifts to taking care of the body and perhaps more lower dan tien focus, if physical issues come up. Not that level II healing techniques don't work to clear something. I refer more to how one engages with active exercise in one's practice. Maybe a dip in physical health most likely finds one using both those level II techniques, and level one active. That is one aspect of balance that one finds in this practice. I certainly don't deny that it is possible to 'transform' all aspects of self in a heart centered focus(I refer many to just a meditation practice), but I do feel that some people with physical issues, and that relative to their spiritual level of practice, in say a practice focused just in a higher center, may have difficulty in that transformation of physical blockages. Some not. It is all relative. I think it is wonderful to live a healthy physical, emotional, and spiritual life, experience and include all those pieces. It is a very simple and effective measure, and reference to self, through these three dan tiens. Where one is relative to them, where one can choose to reference oneself, express's one self, relative to these three centers.
Perhaps the lower dan tien will be a great puzzle piece for you given your past meditation practice., which I would continue by all means.
Bring into that practice, the starting point, which you could spend more time in to feed the physical self, and making the energy pill at the end, closing with the face washing, combing the hair, cupping the head, massaging the ears, and cupping the kidneys. Stand, and pat the tailbone. All this putting energy back in the right places and promoting health.
one more thing. Small universe can be quite elegant.. In the beginning, it can seem to have a pace to it that seems counterproductive to experiencing emptiness. At some point , without the CD, maybe try slowing it way down and expand the sense you have of an area, the area perhaps being the 'only place you are aware of ' in that moment of experience, not focusing there, relative to also seeing or realizing the whole loop, or other parts.
love,
gallen

Dear Marcy:

I have been practicing Spring Forest Qigong for only a short time and have also experienced chilling sensations during and after performing the Active Exercises.

I am a chiropractor, who utilizes a method, which helps facilitate release of meningeal tensions held within the nervous system’s spinal cord. During care, as our patients progress through spinal release toward meningeal ease, frequently, they almost predictably mention very similar cold sensations that may be described as ‘deep bony chills’ – for this time we have blankets to offer for added comfort. We practitioners have been informed that the chilling sensations are indicative of release of mechanical cord tension from within the nervous system (Phase 5, of the adjusting protocol).

I am unsure, whether or not what you describe is Qigong’s similar releasing effects on our central nervous systems, or whether, as hypothesized, the effect is an indication of kidney system challenge. Personally, chills indicate shift is taking place; leading to further healing potentials.

Many of my own adjustments/entrainments have resulted in remarkable MindBody response – many of which have been heavily cathartic. I have spent many years attempting to realize that which is happening is not to be judged as ‘bad’, but rather it is the body’s response through its perfect healing processes.

I hope that I am able to offer another insight into the perfection of your own Innate Intelligence.

Love and Peace,
Joe
