I have used a variety of techniques in improving my golf game and I know they have been effective. I have qualified and played in 5 USGA events and cured myself of the putting "yips" about 6 years ago. I now use "Personal Genius" to enhance the visualisations needed for effective putting. I have been able to make the hole seem as big as a volleyball. Since putting is all visual it helps to use that sense to make putts and give up the conscious brain's influence on all the details of the stroke. Since the subconscious brain sees the line and knows how to putt, freeing the conscious brain from all the extra thoughts, leaves the line to the hole and how hard to hit each putt up to the subconscious brain. I had several sessions with a personal hypnotist who created personalized tapes for me 6 years ago. It took about 2 years of listening and working with those ideas to free up my putting stroke again.
You need to assess what parts of your game give you the most problems and get lessons in those areas. I am a lesson taker and always search for a teacher who can produce results quickly. I don't believe in drills that divide the golf swing into set positions. Golf needs to be a "swing" and not positions along the way. Learning the game as a caddy learned to swing would be the ideal. However, I didn't have that opportunity and began with golf instructors. The use of digital cameras have subdivided the swing into parts and created some of todays confusions with the golf swing. And I have used them more than most over the years.
