My understanding of purpose:

ANYTHING that motivates you to read with concentration.

That's all there is to it.

All this stuff about using the right words is distracting and actually hinders your ability to read.

If you think of a purpose and then start reading and find 5 or 10 minutes into reading you aren't concentrating on the task at hand then you must change your purpose/reason for reading.

Purpose helps you to build the mind probing questions. Since the mind loves getting answers and hates unanswered questions you have the motivation to find the answer quickly. Without a purpose it's difficult to ask questions that build the relevant knowledge you are looking for.

Purpose is the path you've chosen to take to reach your goal. A purpose can point out that a different book would be better than the one you have in your hand. Once you're clear in your mind what your goal is and your course of action (purpose) you won't need to change your purpose 5 or 10 minutes into the book.

If you're straying you ask different questions. If you don't have a question you don't have a reason to concentrate on your reading. Then you lose your concentration and reason for reading.

Hi Joeblogs,

I have a nice experience to share with you.

Yesterday, i got to photoread a book of chemistry to face the chemistry test in my exam.

When i previewed the book of chemistry, i suddenly thought that my teacher gave some tips for me the day before. It was about the topic that will definitely be tested in the chemistry test.

However, i forgot the place that i put my tips. After that, i decided to change my purpose before i photoread the book of chemistry.

"I want to get the knowledge about experiment of chemistry which will be tested tomorrow from this book of Chemistry so that...."

Then i photoread the book of Chemistry and did some super reading and dipping on it.

I tested the Chemistry test today. The content in Chemistry test is 100% same with what i have photoread and activated on yesterday. The 100% i meant is the test has three question and i have ONLY activated the knowledge of that three question on yesterday.

I am happy! This is the power of Purpose!

I hope you can experience this great feeling too.

I am sorry that my english is poor and i sincerely hope that you can understand what i said.

Best regards,

Alva
