I would like to hear from people regarding their experiences with EFT. I worked with it briefly and it didn't seem to do anything. What experiences have you had (good, bad or indifferent)?

I played around with it a bit...and I also know people who do EMDR. I find for myself, it is a little hard to be subjective and tap- so my reults with EFT were few. However, the sessions I had with EMDR were fabulous! I think it was because I could be completely present with my subjective experience, while the counselor was doing the tapping or eye movements...

Maybe if you found someone to work with, I recomend EMDR- but perhaps someone you could trust who knows EFT, maybe that would get results for you.

I have found EFT very helpful if I feel anxious or stressed at work. I used the downloaded guidance document from the EFT site and currently sign up to its newsletter. (the download is free) It think the site is something like www.emofree.com (haven't been on it for a while as I receive the newsletter instead). The instructions are very clear in the booklet. Just make sure you read through all the advice before you start. Gary Craig (EFT founder) highlights how important it is to understand the process fully before you use it. It's a very gentle and effective procedure which merely requires repetition and a bit of perserverence. It appears to involve a combination of affirmation/auto-suggestion with stimulation (through light tapping) of key acupressure points to activate a change in ingrained physiological reactions to certain thoughts or situations including those characteristic of a phobia response (symptomatised both physically and emotionally).
Give it a shot and see what happens.
Kind regards
Ingrid

EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitising Reprograming, and in many respects is very similar to EFT. You need to find a licenced practitioner to do it- they are quite strict about protecting the intergrity of the model, and require a Masters in counseling or a related disciplin to take the trainng.

I found that EMDR let me be absorbed in my own subjective experience, as the therapist was taking care of the movements/tapping etc. With EFT I had trouble staying witht he subjective part while also thinking of the tapping etc. It would probably work out better for me if I knew someone else who knows the model and could help iout...But that is me...lots of people find the EFT works great for them solo.

Hi,

I'm having great experiences with EFT but it took some study, practice, practice and pratice. I did have some one minute wonders but if you are not well trained in other parallel techniques as counselling or EMDR or energy psychology, energy medicine, hoffmann, etc. and you are already used to working within yourself for a few years (for example on ego issues), it's difficult to remove hardcore, well underground, subconsciuos energy blocks by yourself.
EFT states that just tapping yourself as they teach in the book you should experience a 50% success rate and I agree. However that rate drastically diminishes if you try to treat yourself a life long depression, anxiety, addiction, a disease and/or other complicated issues.

I've bought all of the EFT dvd's and they are very helpful - I highly recommend them. I also treat other people as my part-time job and enjoy wonderful results. I do, however encounter clients which seem to have no benefits with this technique and this frustrates my ego at times (lol). The answer here is being constant and just keep on tapping.

I found many useful tips at their website: insert your keyword in their search engine and you'll certainly get something out of it. ;-)

I was really impressed with my sessions with EFT. I experienced the very first ever relief from a migraine without help from someone else using these techniques. Always before, I had to have someone do acupressure for me--which worked, mind you, but if I got a migraine while alone, I was stuck with it.

That time, I zapped it with EFT, and (knock wood) I've never gotten another one. I could feel it being zapped--first there was a tingling in my head, neck and shoulders, then, like magic, it was just GONE.

I've also been using it on some other challenges, mostly small potatoes compared to the migraines, and it's been just amazing.

That said, it's not much help for physical conditions like sinus problems--finally gave up and got some antibiotics for that. I suspect the techniques have their limitations, which in my case, I prefer to respect.

I'm a hypnotherapist and often use EFT with my clients as well as for myself- I think it's amazing!

Personally, it has gotten me over fears in social situations, fear of heights and I often use it as a tool for working through "lingering emotions" (for which it works about 50% of the time). As for with my clients, it's helped with past traumas, body problems such as Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or sexual problems - you name it!

I find that the toughest obstacle with EFT is staying, as Gary calls it, "Tuned-In" to the problem - Especially for a person just starting to use the protocol. The way EFT works is that you have to maintain the disruption in the energy system (or more clearly, you have to be feeling the negative feeling or thinking the negatve thought - To at least SOME degree) while tapping. That can be a bit hard as our minds often tend to think about other things.
I think it is that reason why some people don't get as good results as others.

In conclusion - It is awesome and HIGHLY recommended!
Good luck!

Hi origfla,

I was wondering if you could be so kind to tell me what was behind the Tinnitus problem because I have a client who has the same issue but is very Psychologically Reversed, has no important memories of the past and has a very hard time feeling emotions (he's over 60 yrs old).
Any insight would be much appreciated. :-)

Hey Neo,

In all honesty, I don't fully remember, but from my past experience with hypnosis and EFT, here are some things I would recommend to check:

- I've had people who had major secondary gain through having Tinnitus, such as a reason to complain to others / get attention, a reason to be away from specific situations (EG - "You know I can't go to ___ because...")

- Besides searching for any significant memories, were there any specific situations of very loud noise that either precipitated / worsened the Tinnitus?

Aside from that, I would say that one of the best methods I have of working with clients such as the one you're mentioning is to pre-frame the session by having him come up with a way to WORSEN the Tinnitus by having him play around with some submodalities - Most clients that resist healing have very little problem with being able to make the problem worse!

See if you can get him to attach one specific submodality (color, distance, location, shape, size, etc) to controlling the Tinnitus's severity. Then, form an EFT point of view, have him make it the worst he can (i.e. As best as he can, get "Tuned in") then tap on he tinnitus - or even on the controlling submodality.

Regardless whether the EFT works, you're still creating an unconscious realization for him that he is controlling / creating this problem.

I hope this makes sense, but if not, please feel free to ask for more clarification.
